Hi all,

Here's a pic from some of my WW2 Luftwaffe collection.

The main item is a 'Fliegerkombi'. It's a one-piece flight suit made in 1936 and used by Luftwaffe bomber crews in 1940 during the Battle of Britain.

The matching flight helmet is made of the same material and is known as a 'Summer' flight helmet. The winter version was made of leather. Interesting point is that the throat mics were standard and ahead of their time.

The flight gauntlets match the period set.

I've included Ulrich Steinhilper's book 'Spitfire On My Tail' for historical comparison.

Here's a pic of the flight suit in use. Crazy Heinkel-111 guys having a joke http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Aviators have a common bond IMO.

Hi Bewolf,

Sorry, no information as to what caused the amusement. But I don't think it matters really, the flight crew were the same as any other aviators the world over. The best humour is spontaneous and of course never recorded!

I don't think that the shot was posed, so full credit to the camera-man! Maybe he was the nose-gunner?

Excellent collection Avro.

Ermmmm... Do you try them on when you fly?

Not being funny. But I have a race suit. Circa 1980. That I could? wear whilst playing my favourite Race Sims.

Perhaps I should look for a Black Leather helmet and tinted goggles for most of those "Reich Defence " Missions. I fly in IL2.

Cheers!

Hi all,

I used to collect RAF flight gear but their flight equipment was far more limited. Fighter and bomber crews in general wore the same equipment with little variation in style.

Funny you should say that Avro.?

But that has hit the nail on the head. As to "Why the fascination with Nazi gear"?

Of course it is to do with the fact that "Their Stuff" Looked much :cooler, than ours and varied as the War went on.

When I say "Cooler" I mean that many of their items of equipment, were carried over after the War, And are still regarded as viable. Doctrines and paraphenalia to be used within Modern combat spheres.

Salute!

Hi

There are many sources. Try ebay for a start but be careful as there are fakes around. As far as LW flight helmets are concerned there are no fakes as far as I know. They are too complex to fake and the market price doesn't make it worth whilefor a fraudster!

There are many dealer sites. The flight helmet in my pic would probably cost you about GB 230 in good condition.

If you want to know more please PM me.
