Activating Joystick in control panel

Does anyone know why this is:

Evertime I crank up my pc w/ winxp I have to goto control panel--game controllers, then watch until my joystick pops in the text box as "ok". If I don't do this the joystick wont activate or "turn on".

Is that normal? Is there anyway to make this happen on its own?

If you have a gameport stick, this might be why. a newer usb stick will have software that recognizes it at start up. just a guess. I had a great ch fighterstick, and it was gameport, and I had a few problems, but not since I got newer stuff. I really liked that control stick though.
