Simply because the perfect mode doesnot work with DX thats the way the game is coded.

Your better of using OpenGL. Direct X is just a wrapper for it. Generally you'll get better FPS with OpenGL, especially with Nvidia cards but also with ATI cards.

I have a 3.6ghz P4 with 2gb and ATI X800XT. I run the game on DX but when I try Opengl all seems fine until I fire a missile or make a splash in the water with a bomb and then I get a completely black screen with only aircraft showing, until the rocket is gone or splash over. Any idea's what's wrong ? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif Thanks...

Am I the only one who gets much better DirectX performance than OpenGL with a 6800?

Had the same thing with the old Ti4600, and the FX5950.

?????

I have a GF4 TI4200 128Mb and with open gl I get about mid/high 20's frame rate, but with Dx I get near 50fps.

If you don't get good performance in OpenGL or get graphic corruption, reinstall or update your video drivers. OpenGL files are included with the drivers. On all systems, OpenGL is about 10-20% faster than DirectX for this game.

OpenGL is the only option for Perfect Mode due to the game code.

Its Normal, Geforce is designed for DirectX! I have better FPS in IL-2 under directX with my 6800GT, but the water is bad and you can't choose the "pefect" mode! BUT the graphic effects (light, explosion) are really better with DirectX!

I dont know why we can't use the water 3 with the DirectX mode, because pixel shader 3.0 its a DirectX feature... Windows Hardware and Driver Central - Shader Model 3.0 (http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/winhec/partners/shadermodel30_NVIDIA.mspx)

You can have the PS 3.0 under OpenGL, but you can't under DirectX ...lol

Who told you geforce were designed for DX? You might want to do a bit more research.
