Reports are these drivers are garbage. The best so far are the 4.9 hotfix drivers.

Is there any improvement in FPS? And how is the IQ better-I mean in what aspect.

Thanks!

4.10 is 9 versions newer than 4.1

I'm using win98se.

When it says it's designed to support windows 2000 and xp, does that mean I should NOT install it ??

N0-don't use the 4.10 drivers on a 98 rig-yet.

It's not a NTFS kernel.

S!
For me the 4.10 are a go. The CCC is no longer a trouble and I really enjoy the new AI feature.
For me on my computer it is a big go versus the 4.9's.

That AI feature what do you meaning?

I am using the 4.9 drivers and my plan
of downloading a later version is only when the "viewing dots" has been improved for il2fb.

The 4.10 worked out great for me. I didn’t
download the CCC this time around because I
didn’t like the version that came with
the 4.9. I wonder if I should have
downloaded it this time around?
Anyway my framerates improved so I'm happy
and now I can crank the mipmap detail level
all the way up. Thanks for the notice.

Ummm, I'm a little confused about the installation process.
I'm a converted nVidia guy and have moved from their products to a 9800XT. I am currently using 4.7 Catalyst drivers with no problems.
With nVidia products I always completely removed the old drivers and then installed the new drivers "fresh". This page from the ATI site :

http://mirror.ati.com/support/installation/radeon/winxp/radeoninstallwinxp.html

seems to indicate I can install 4.10 over my exisitng drivers.

Is that correct? Shouldn't I completely clean out the 4.7 version first?

I'm also one for "if it's not broke, don't fix it". Are these drivers that much better?

Thanks in advance. Any help is appreciated.

I always uninstall the previous driver, always. Below is a simple, quick, and effective method to uninstall and clean the registry.

-----------------------------------------

If on dsl or broadband, disconnect.

Control Panel-add/remove programs-ATI Software uninstall Utility-click change/remove - DO NOT REBOOT

Delete the ATI folders from HD
- C:\ATI

Using ctrl + alt + del shut down any ATI services.

Open regedit and delete these strings.
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\ati2mtag

All sub entries in this folder delete
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Video

All sub entries in this folder delete
- HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\System\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\VIDEO

Reboot

Let windows install a default vga adapter by hitting cancel at Hardware Wizard/video controller. (Twice)

Install chipset drivers (if required) and reboot.

Install new Cat: Reboot (If you are using the 20mb d/l install, Reboot after completed.)

Install control panel: Reboot

Reinstall monitor driver if not using Windows version. Reboot.

If on dsl or broadband, reconnect.

---------------------------------------

If you would like to run the ogl package first, extract them from the driver package and place in your FB directory. If you like it, then run the driver install.

To extract the ogl:

Download, but do not install, the Catalyst driver that contains the desired OpenGL driver.
Use WinZip to open the Catalyst driver with the desired OpenGL driver. To do this right click the Catalyst package, select WinZip, and then "Open With WinZip".
Search for the file atioglxx.dl_ - Double click that file.
A new iteration of WinZip will popup. This is normal. Highlight "atioglxx.dll" and select "Extract" from within WinZip. Extract it to the desktop or directly to your FB directory.
Use drag/drop to place desired OpenGL driver in your FB directory if extracted to desktop.

Overall impressions... great driver. All flickering and other anomalies of 4.9 set are gone. Runs rock solid, didn`t check for performance increase...but deffinitely didn`t see any decrease http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Is Windows SP2 really required? It jacked my system, (I use my own firewall, and such) and I don't use it currently. Any forseeable problems with installing on a SP1 system? Thank you for your time.

Caution: The CATALYSTâ"ž˘ CONTROL CENTER requires that Microsoft's .NET Framework Version 1.1 be installed. Without .NET Version 1.1 installed the CATALYSTâ"ž˘ CONTROL CENTER will not launch properly, and the user will see an error message as a result

No it wasn't. I pm'd you. But for anyone else, it is based in the U.K. and was what I originally planned on (I love that pic). I eventually found the plane that I am going to model mine after.

My under-construction plane was re-built/painted to honour the pilot that died in his, Lt Hammy Gray, the last Canadian to die in WWII (July 28 1945) and the last Canadian to win the Victoria Cross for his last mission. I quote from Lt Commander Stuart E. Soward:

The other flight members recall him saying he was going in, and peeled off to follow him in the high speed run. As Gray levelled out his Corsair, it was blasted with cannon and machine gun fire. The aircraft was set on fire, and one of his 500 lb. bombs was shot off. He then steadied the aircraft, and aimed his remaining bomb. This bomb hit the ocean escort vessel Amakusa below the after gun turret, exploded the ammunition locker, and blew out the starboard side of the ship. Amakuza rolled and sank immediately.

Gray continued flying but brief seconds later his burning aircraft rolled over, hit the water at high speed, and broke up. Gray was killed, becoming the last Canadian to die in combat in WW2. Despite the shock of losing their leader, and in spite of the order to make only one run at each target, the remaining pilots conducted two more successful attacks on the target Japanese ships.

Hammy Gray was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross on August 31, 1945 for "determination and address in air attacks on targets in Japan on the 18th, 24th and 28th of July 1945."

On November 13, 1945 Hammy Gray was posthumously awarded the British Commonwealth's highest medal for valour, the Victoria Cross. In part, his citation read: "Lieutenant Gray has consistently shown a brilliant flying spirit and most inspiring leadership."

Written by Lieutenant Commander Stuart E. Soward, author of "A Formidable Hero,"
a biography of Hampton Gray.

This is a pic of the plane that was in the museum and was sold because the Canadian government was/is too tight to properly fund our heritage.

It is done in Hammy Grays squadron colours and his ID.

Win XP / SP 2 - Cat 4.10 on "Perfect" is perfect.

I'm running 9800 Pro and my frame rates doubled comparing the same sequence in "The Black Death." Also tested a very busy coop mission which was always choopy before but it ran silky smooth with the new drivers on Perfect without a single stutter.

YOu can use them with 2000. Xp is just 2k with more bells and whistles so you'll be fine.

With my 9700 pro the 4.9s weren't great, previous Cats gave better performance but these 4.10's are excellent, can get much higher frame rates generally.

I don't have Sp2 either and there was no problem although the new control centre isn't very intuitive.

Thanks steve_v and oFZo for the advice. Next question:

Catalyst Control Center....how valuable? It appears that .NET Framework is designed for laptop/mobile compatability with desktops? I don't have a laptop, don't plan on getting one so my only "need" for NET Framework would be the CCC.

Again, thanks in advance.

Quint1974

I'm curious about that too. Do I need the Catalyst Control Center?

I'm going from 4.7's to 4.10.

Also, I only have SP1 installed, and I dont want SP2.

Thanks!

No Cat Control Center, SP2, updated my Creative drivers, installed 4.10's getting smooth 40 average fps using Perfect landscape setting. Athlon 64 3400+, ATI 9700 Pro, 1 gig of Corsair.

I am a very pleased ATI customer. Despite the fact that my card runs hot http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gifthe tangible value of the product has substantially increased with newer driver releases. It works better now than ever http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif . Thanks ATI.
