Negative.

The kind of game that I sit down and plan out my moves then wait, then see what happens - than plan more, then make my move... etc etc etc bore the pants off me.

I know that is not what this game is like ... but it is close enough that I know it is not for me.

Il2 is great cause I can strap myself in.
Start it.
Kill a bunch of people.
Feel better and quit. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nope, I've played Medieval 2 Total War though, and that one was a weenie, albeit a great-looking one. When a battle which historically took 3 hours to decide is typically over in 30 seconds in M2TW, something is wrong.

Better yet, did you ever play any of the Combat Mission series? They were far, far better and more realistic than CC. I started playing CMBO (Combat Mission Beyond Overlord) back when it was a public beta and think it's one of the most significant computer wargames ever made. Highly detailed, real 3D terrain, easy to play but hard to master. It had a few warts (like relative spotting, which is incorporated in ToW and very limited modding), but it was and still is a classic.

I see there's also a new game called "Combat Mission: Shock Force" that's due out soon, too. I'm not sure if I like the scripted storyline idea, but we'll see.

You really need to watch some of the game play videos before asking this generalized statement.Theatre of War (http://www.battlefront.com/products/tow/gallery.html)
