View Full Version : Ministutters, will more RAM help me, should I change my graphic settings?

I have some mini-stutters which make aiming much more difficult than it should be. Very annoying. I only have the phenomenon since I applied 2x-antialiasing, but I feel my system should be able to handle that.

My system is:
Athlon XP2000+
GForce4 MX440 128 MB RAM
512 MB dd-ram

I use the default setting in the IL-2:FB-setup for "Nvidia Gforece 4 MX". It sets mipmap filter to trilinear, texture compression to none, enables use dither, use vertex arrays and use polygon stipple, and enables the extensions of multitexture, combine, secondary colour, vertex array extension and texture compress ARB extension.

Should I change any of these settings?

The stuttering and short pauses mainly occur when I use the gunsight view and sweep my view across a forest. It's like there's "glue" on the forest and my rotation puses a bit. It makes smooth movements difficult.

So, would another 512 MB dd-ram help here? Should I change some graphics settings in the setup?

I have the Radion 9700 and 512 mb of ddr too. I also suffer fron the occasional stutter or frame freezing at odd intervals. All my video card settings are on the default ones. My motherboard supports X8 AGP and I have X8 enabled. Sound card is Creative Audigy 2
CPU is AMD XP2600.
I am not worried about the freezing, I just live with it, although I have noticed that after playing the game for a few hours I dont notice any freezing. I have either got used to it, or it stops after the video card warms up a bit!

First of all set the texture compression to S3TC (it worked wonders for me). Then try turning off the antialaising. It seems to cause problems on lower speck cards.

Good luck.

Hi

I got a lower system than yours and get consistent 30-35 average fps in offline flight ! Try running the "black death" track as a benchmark and report your fps here.

Just in case this thread might help a bit !

When I went to 1G of memory it smoothed out FB for me , Also some of the maps can use up to 670 MB of ram.

I'd turn off AA, try a disk defrag, and lower FB's in-game sound quality settings and see if that helps too.

The GF4 card you have isn't exactly a "beast", so AA may be taxing it a little hard.

I have a Radeon 9700 Pro, 2.5 GHz with 512 meg of ram and also get some stuttering. This is a great simulator but it needs some optimizing. Even though I shouldnt have to, I am going to try 1 gig of ram.

Thx for your replies guys, I'll look at what you said. Still hope it won't be necessary to drop the anti-aliasing, it looks damn' good.

I have a 9700 pro, 2.4 (533 FSB), and a gig of PC 2700. I get about a 4800 on the latest version of 3DWinMark. I also get micro stutters. Strangely, the leaked beta 1.2 ran without every pausing. Pauses were back in RC and are worse in 1.21.
