View Full Version : my first king george!

sank my first king george battleship last night! it was a great feeling but i do feel a bit dissapointed. the first time i saw one it was in a task force along with another king george and an aircraft carrier. they were moving too fast for me to intercept (20+ knots against my 7knots submerged!) so i had to let them go but since then i've been DIEING to sink one!

finally i encountered another task force and this time i was in a perfect position to approach and engage the battleships. so, made my painstaking approach to avoid a dc attack from the escorts before i got my shot off and decided to fire my remaining 4 front torps (aft, stern, hell i ain't no seaman!) to ensure the kill. imagine my surprise when i scored a lucky shot and the battleship blew up after one impact! being greedy i thought "hell to this, i'm reloading my save and keeping the three other torps i fired for someone on the way home". so i reload my save (i'm bad and **** i know! lol) and attack again. this time no matter what i do i can't sink it with even 3 torps! so i'm getting a bit frustrated at not being satisfied with the original shot (the problem with playing at low realism i guess) and ini my frustration i load the previous save to the one for this encounter. i realise at the last moment i've just deleted all saves from that point which means i no longer can attack the king george!

angry and extremely pi55ed at myself i head on up to scap flow where i was going originally. (the king george is there in feb '42 andi was on my way to get it when i met the taskforce in open sea). being my second time entering the port i thought i'd be smart and steer clear of the northern coastline of scotland in order to avoid the air cover which was a major pain on my original entrance to the port. so i coast on up without spotting a singel plane until i'm coming back down on a southward heading to enter scapa flow from the west. i get into port without being detected or even having the enemy aware of my presence. (a torpedo boat zoomed past about 20 metres from me and didn't notice)

so i scoot into the port, find the king george, attack using the recognition manual targeting system and sink it with one shot. head on out and don't even encounter any destroyers or corvettes or anything.

i'm so glad i got a king george (yay me!) but getting that original hit in open water was SO mush more satisfying than my sneak attack in scapa flow. a wee bit dissapointing.

still, got the bugger! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

After 22 patrols, I have seen only one task force and it was way too far(over 1000K). That had to be great either way.

I've never seen a task force at all! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

Where are they?

9th patrol in 1940, and still no task force met.... I once sneaked in Scapa Flow, saw a sitting ship and I tought it was a battleship. As I came near, it became to full speed and began hunting me...it was a destroyer! OK, i need more powerful glasses...

i've only ever seen the 2 task forces and they were both off the west coast of ireland.

it was just pot luck that i was able to engage the second one because it was on a 180 degree bearing when the map contact came in.

one good thing is that it pushed up my reknown by about 3 - 400 and meant i didn't have to do another patrol before i could get my IXC uboat.

now that i've got it i'm transffering the hell out of lorient!!! lol

i've actually got a list of what ships are in what ports (only scapa flow and loch ewe) at what date if anybody wants me to post it. i copied it from another thread so if the poster see's this thread thankyou!

I've had 25 missions now and I'm in July 1942. I've seen 2 Task Forces and I had a similar experience as Kasroth with the very first Task Force I saw. I was off the northern tip of Spain and headed to port after what had been up to that point a very disappointing patrol when I got the warship spotted, 001 degrees warning. I did a CD and took a look with the periscope and saw a line of heavies moving fast with 2 DE's on each side. They were moving so fast I barely had time to set up a shot. No way I could have set up an intercept if I hadn't gotten so lucky. Two Revgene class BBs come flying by and I fire at the last one. It took 4 torpedos (the last one was insurance) and I go from a poor patrol to my 1st time to crack 100K.
Bigtime adreniline rush. I love this game.
