When you fly with custom skins which ones do you prefer?
I prefer exact replicas but without markings.

~S~ Kuna! (DKoor http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ) Yes I likewise enjoy the historical but also the flexibility to have no markings and let the mission do that (choice no.2).

The exacts with markings seem to add the pontential of confusion (duplicates) while the Historical- appropriate camo colours isn't quite historical enough for me.

It's always pretty cool to see an old pic with the skin you may have used recently http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Funny thing happened to me the very first time that I flew on hyperlobby....I was in a 109, took off, and was heading to the action.....I took a look outside, and was surprised to find 3 other 109's right behind me in perfect formation....so I asked, it turns out that my aircraft had leader marking's on it, not sure how I did that http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif....true story

I'll still go with choice A though

Since I was never a WWII pilot and I always fly with my own personal skin when I can I said fantasy..

08-28-2007, 02:53 PM
I picked the 3rd historical choice. I like to keep things looking like that would have, but without exact/replica markings, or my own.

In some cases though I like to go wacky or out-of-the-ordinary. (Like with Sea Dogs)

I voted fantasy.

I love flying in my personal skins.

In second, I would have chosen semi-historical.

Thanks for the input guys.......although I love all skins, I rarely fly -if ever- in original ww2 pilot skins (Rudel, Glinka etc.)

I like the flexibility of skins and I like skins without markings because of one reason mostly - I can apply them and all other people who have skin d/l off can still see my markings (or at least I believe so) in spite me choosing custom skin as long as I have markings on.

But I really looking forward that we finally get unified netcache skin numbers......that way, once downloaded, skin will be instantly available every time it's used on every server.
I'm just sorry that wasn't already available http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif then again I'm no programmer so I don't know just how hard that would be to implement into game.

Here is the thread in ORR about this issue:

NetcacheCodeOnly=1 FTW http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif !

I'll vote for historical with appropriate colors. As long as it looks similar to what the real planes should look like it's good with me. I think if you give the skinners some creative license, they can come up with schemes that look better than the historically exact ones.

I really like the stock camo for the 109F(2 or 4 I forget) when I was flying the Crimea campaign. I don't know if it's exactly historically correct, but it looks good either way.

Also since many of the pictures of the original planes are B+W, the artists have to use some interpretation anyways. It's not as if they have full color, detailed walkaround photos of every plane in this game to work off of.

Actually I usually just go with the default skin and markings when I fly offline, unless the briefing specifies a special one should be used. Online too I just use default skin and appropriate country's markings unless the briefing says otherwise.

Need another choice.

Historical paint/camo scheme with my personal number.

I always fly as number 23. I have shopped many skins to replace the numbers accordingly.

I like to use historical skins, but without "ace" markings. However, some replica skins are so good that I use them anyway.

Anything with a Red Tail for me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I guess that makes most of them "fantasy".

Online, I'll go with the flow---historical is the norm.
Offline, I like the most elegant/slick/flamboyent/neon/flash with seksy noseart I can find.

08-28-2007, 06:36 PM
I like proper general camo characteristics. If I'm it's a plain that would have nose art in real life, I'll add my own.

100% Historical all the way. This includes all piloted aircraft in the same flight, it's 100% immersive.

I prefer blank skins, so that i have the option of which markings to select.

Back in the original IL2, I never put the numbers and insignias on the skins I made, because the only way you could remove the automatic ones is by selecting the country of "none", which was impossible in Co-Ops. But now since you can just turn decals off, I have made authentic skins with their included insignias and number patterns, but I usually include a no-marking version for those who fly on co-ops where flight numbers are important or autoskin downloading is turned off (most dogfight servers).

I would probably make more realistic but fictional personal skins, but since auto-download is off on the most popular serves like Warclouds and Zekes Vs Wildcats, I havent been bothered to try and "inflict terror into foes at the sight of his Scarlet Tri-Plane" Or whatever scheme I can imagine. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Hopefully for SoF, the files will be alot smaller, or if you have the same file names in your skins folder, they will load off your hard drive regardless of skin downloading toggle. So in general, I like making historical schemes as accuratley as possible, and then taking all of 2 minutes to remove the decal layers and having a historical scheme that is useable in more situations, is just fine too.

Historical. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Since I am not Erich Hartmann, I don't like to fly a plane that has his particulars on it. Same goes for other pilots. I like historical skins (and it IS neat to see pics of planes and be able to say "I wore that skin a few days ago") but I like to fly as #85

08-29-2007, 03:01 PM
I fly with #65
So Historical Skins and colors no markings for me mostly.

Unless I'm in a room recreating History for a movie or Screen shot of course. And I do that quite often.

Although, if in a squad or simulair function requiring a custom fitted skin. If well done I'm more than happy there too.

I guess I'm a skin *****, just aswell as a plane ***** me thinks. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
