View Full Version : Forum spam bots are out of hand!

As the title says, this is getting ridiculous. As if it wasn't bad enough that during the late night hours your forums are spammed with pirating ads and escort services, but then we are told by community mods not to mention this again? (And of course you see how well that went over.)
But the straw to break our collective backs comes with this new insurgence of bots that decide to spam ACTUAL POSTS in which players are trying to have debates over.

Enough is enough, this had gone on for longer than it should have with little to no progress seen or heard of. It's been mending and confirmed that your other forms on this same site find suffer from this issue, and I for one, would like to know why and what you plan to do about it.

I agree with you the spam bots are getting ridiculous now and still nothings been put in place to prevent this and if there is then its not very good, I've never seen this with other forums before so why can't ubi fix this.

Yup, the most discouraging thing about it came when a moderator flat out told us we weren't allowed to talk about it and to stop bringing it up. It's like they have committed to not addressing the problem at the highest level. And that only hurts three active mods like Jurassic, Insulin and Noty that do such a great job of maintaining their respective posts. It's not fair to them that they have to come in at the start of their day, and instead of browsing the lists of posts made that they have missed, they have to go through and manually delete whatever spam there is just to get the active threads back on the first 3-4 pages. That's almost 15-20 posts per page! I'm with you, I've never seen a forum this infected.

Of the 3 forums sites that I participate in, this is the ONLY one I've seen with Spam-Bots (Overwatch and Destiny 2, I've not seen one single bot on the forums in the last half a year) Theres gotta be something that they can do....

I don't think they will, not unless we force their hand by some form of community call to action.
Hell, I'd be willing to spear head that one, I've got little else better to do. :P

Hey folks,

We're currently trying to work on the problem, as the spam bots seem to flood into the For Honor section (as it's the first forum that appears on our site). Hopefully we can combat this soon, and I assure you we're doing our best to resolve it, for both of our sakes (clicking so many times in one day can't be healthy for me ;D).

Have a great day, and apologies for the mess,

Jim.

I have two problems with this statement (neither of which are directed at you, specifically) 1: we've been told this for over a year now, and 2: this isn't a new problem. It's not like spam bots just came into being last month, they've been around for as long as the internet has, so solutions are out there.
At this point in time seeing responses like "hey, we are working on it." Just don't cut it anymore. I feel I can speak for quite a few of us when I say, we would like to see something a little more tangible.
Again, none of this angst is directed at you mods. if anything I feel as bad for you guys as I do my fellow lurkers, as you all are pretty much in the same boat as us. And the lack of attention this problem had redirected as only served to further discord between the community.

Alustar is right, this has gone on far too long and is just beyond a joke now. I canít thibk of how many times this has been brought up and the same BS lies have been told, which would have been sent down from high up in Ubisofts hierarchy. Pretty much given up hope that this will ever get fixed, as well as other forum bugs that still occur. Itís not the Mods fault they have to deal with this rubbish day in and day out as well as say what they would have been told to say to us. Itís been said so many times that there are heaps of ways to combat the spam, itís halfway through 2018 for Christís sake and we have to deal with spam bots on a multi-billion dollar companies official forums. We just want a definite answer.

Are you going to get rid of the spam or not?

the spam bots aren't not even family friendly ads its 18+ rated ads and surely that use calls for immediate action?

Lol I never thought about that! Makes me wonder how they are getting by without dozens of concerned mothers writing letters!?

My heart goes out to the mods especially. I mean I only have to skip around these spam threads and posts or at worst just leave and come back later. The mods have to mark and click on every single spam thread out of two dozen of them damn near every day before getting on with their primary duties of interacting with the community.

Ubi doesn't much care for their moderator's quality of life let alone their forum's image it seems. Imo volunteer workers like the forum mods shouldn't have to be in a position where they pick up the slack for a multi-billion dollar company running its forum spam security like it's some kind of impoverished one man indie website.

It is pretty ridicilous with saudiarabian and indian ****** ads everywhere ll. Would not risk banging a ****** in saudi arabia lol
You know that's the second post of yours I've run into today where you're showing a bit too much of your unguarded opinion against middle eastern races. You might want to reign that ugliness in before I stop giving you the benefit of the doubt in politely assuming that you've just got a crass nature about you.

I'm thinking we should start a petition to get this patented to the mod leads and gleefully get the problem expedited.

Cant wait till you do, already started making up my own spam bots to get the petition to 100,000 signs so Parliment can get Ubisoft into gear.

they just need to come forward on the bots themselves. Just say we need them to make $$ off them. and that's that lol.

I assure you, the bots are as big an issue for us as they are for you.

We are trying to eliminate the spam on the forums, but as the bots adapt to our methods, it gets harder to do. That doesn't mean we'll stop trying to fix the problem at the core though, and hopefully we can get them out of the forums eventually.

Jim.

If For Honor is the first on the forum list, can we get it moved down farther? Lol let another community take the bots for a while.

This was a problem before for honor was first on line on the forum listing..
Edit: additionally there are plenty of ways to deal with this type of spam involved in forums. The devs just need to spend the time and resources to put together an actual solution other than what ever they are not doing.

go speak to activation, Sony, or dice Microsoft and ask for their method on eliminating bots as I've never seen spam of those forums.
