DELL 5650 SPEAKER SYSTEM W/SUBWOOFER,DIM
The speakers are kind of cheese for that powerful soundcard. That card can pull 7.1 sound but you purchased 5.1 speakers. Also connecting Dell speakers to an Audigy card is going to be fun... I always go with Creative Labs speakers and the Creative cards to keep things the same. Just so you know soundblasters seem to be having a sound issue with SH3 also. If you hear a popping sound it's not your computer. With any luck they will fix it in the next patch.

The fix for soundblasters is in Silent Hunter III - Community Help under Crackling/popping while playing

Whats nice about a new pc is that its already been formatted and it got a fresh install of windows. The same can be with a PC that someone uses now but since its used and has lots of software both single and 3rd party ones there will be always the chance one of those programs will conflict with SHIII in some way and as a mater of fact sometimes all do. When its a PC that is being used by many family members things sure get cluttered and worse they all surf the net which picks up unwanted parasites like spyware and trojan software. Spyware has been known to cap out people's CPU useage which makes the PC appear to be slow. If your not patched with SP2 now-a-days you will pick up those programs like you wouldnt believe and you wouldnt even know it because most are silent installing. LOL kinda like the way starforce copy protection did. Anways not everyone has the means to format to a clean windows install but there is a work-Around and thats to get a few harddrives and put them in removeable 5 1/4 trays. I use BT-32 removeable trays which I feel are far best for their money and highly reliable. The Idea is to have 1 PC do many things. First off for those of you who have wives and children its a good idea to give each their own removeable drive with a copy of windows on it that way if they surf the net and do whatever with it there wont be a troubleshooting nightmare if something goes wrong with the system as all you have to do is remove their harddrive and put yours in. (since being the responsible surfer you are) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Anyways boot it up with yours and you can see if there is a hardware problem in most cases its not. Then you know you should clean or format their drive. All the while your drive is safe and sound as its isolated from theirs completely. Nice thing also about removeable drives is that if you have the cash buy a couple of 40 gig 7200 RPM drives and put fresh installs of windows on them. Then put one piece of gaming software on them. Nice thing is that the games seem to be more stable on their own than have a drive cluttered full of them only to have to format later because something broke down on one and for some reason that game cant be uninstalled. Battlefield is known for this with its new Punkbuster system. I have 1 drive I can put in for financial transactions I do so I would have antivirus software installed which BTW does slow down games since it shadows in the background of windows. The idea is to not ahve so much runnning in the background of windows(taskmanager to view) . The more stuff that runs other than windows itself the more stutter of video, network, and sound you are exposing yourself to which makes even the greatest games, ahemm - SHIII - , slow down. Its not SHIII's fault in most cases its peoples systems which are unknowingly infected by spyware or just that they have tooo much stuff running at startup.

It always brings a tear to my eye when I read/hear about someone buying a Dell for gaming. You could have bought so much more for so much less if you'd built it yourself, or had a friend do it for you, if you don't feel you have the skill/confidence. I do hope you enjoy it, though!

building a computer these days is about as hard as hooking up a component stereo system. Just buy the parts OEM from Newegg.com and plug em all into the motherboard. You could have saved enough to get a 6800 ultra.

lol, if i were you i would not do a clean install of Windows XP after getting your dell because Dell will NOT send you a full copy of windows!!
If you reformat you will be forced to go buy a new copy of WinXP for how much ever it costs now , up to 129 or 200 bucks I cant remember.
Sounds like a nice computer, that 6800 Nvidia will blaze through all programs past present future.
As for the guy mentioning that you get 7.1 sound, dont worry about it. Listen to your speakers that you have now, if they sound great, keep them by all means! If you hate the sound, check out a new THX 5.1 setup from either Logitech (z series) or creative labs. They are great speaker companies.
Anyone who has owned 5.1 and anything higher will tell you that there is little difference.

what are you talking about? On contrary, i would recomend him to do clean install of windows right after he receives his system to get rid off of all the junk that dell puts on their systems. Dell does provide full version of windows XP and professional. I am not even sure if not full versions of windows even exist.

all Compaqs come with Windows XP home installed. They are sold without a full copy of windows but are supplied with a "Windows recovery Disk".

I used to sell these things, lots of them do NOT come with a full copy of XP.

I like Dell systems as well.
the components are "clean" especially the memory and the system bios is very stable, i have very few lockups and freezings. I repeatly read about other guys who have steady lockups CTD's etc. I have had also problems, but they are very rare...once a week or so....

Why on earth would you get a dell?!!? Dell doenst use AMD, and you could of built your own system for about 150-200 bucks cheaper and it would be even better. AMD is better for gaming and pentium is better for programs and such. Why would you buy a pentium for a game? My friend, you just wasted alot of money. BTW is Dell's XPS mother board universal now?

Quick clean up of a bit of mis-information.

ANY PC can be clean installed. the XP CD can come from anywhere, you have the CD Key on the case and it works with OEM CDs.

Find a friend with an OEM CD and get a copy, the Key not the CD is what MS is selling.

Now as for the AMD vs Pentium argument, ignore the fan boys, you got a rocking processor there.

Lastly, Dell is a nightmare to work on unless they stopped using thier special powersupplies and mainboards. Also their systems are poorly optimized.

IF you want a pre-built system then look at Alienware, Falcon Northwest or Voodoo.
