Great Tony, now everyone and his dog is going to whine that they can't take off from the carriers in a fully loaded Corsair http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

That was off a cruiser that had a small deck over the guns...the Americans tried it during the Gulf war to resupply the Arab Coalition, but abandoned it as they never seemed to get far http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I wonder what the camel uses as afterburner? Chiliburgers?

I think it was a Sopwith Pup that took off from a barge being towed behind a cruiser.

It could work with a speedboat underneath. Just accelerate it to the plane's take-off speed and let fly. :P

Imagine if that little boat could get enough speed to actually launch the corsair.

I should reacquaint myself with the current status of the RN. I thought I remembered a proposal for two carriers capable of flying off eurofighters... things going downhill? or maybe this was what someone said they should do? Can't remember. Any links to current RN status and plans would be appreciated.

You Brits might be wise to hang on to a fairly strong navy. Many are concerned (I am among them) that the world is about to experience a fairly severe liquid fuels shortage ending with either: a pollyanna transition to where we are now, with little windmills everywhere, or, a rather grimmer picture of extremely serious shortages of everything currently dependent on petrol (eg food), the end of globalization, wars etc. The UK might be wise to quit depleting the North Sea oil quite so quick (scary declines in production, right on schedule according to Hubbert peak analysts)and start thinking local, and remembering the island part.

As a Canuck sitting on 3 or 400 billion barrels of oil and currently getting 65% of our electricty from hydro, in a vast country, things will be different I expect. Trade deals etc mean any pain will be shared however....

Sorry rambling OT
