i think the post title says it all... i cant understand how they could possibly crank the dl size for the dedicated server up to 320mb i seem to understand the dl package comes with data files (maps for example), that are the very same you would find in any full fb installation... why not build the server folder tree through a script fetching the proper files from the fb folder? im confused i hope sb can shed some light on this i find it unacceptable to have to dl 320mb of stuff even if im on a fast connection when 99% of that stuff is already sitting somewhere on my hd... regards

Yea. When the server came out, that was discussed, and alot of others feel the same. The only reason I can think of why it is that way, is so that the server can access the maps, and other info it needs, within it's on domain or program without having to go elsewhere on the HD to search for them. With that being said, it might make, or have something to do with, how smooth and fast the server performs. Like I said, just a thought with a little reasoning behind it. S!

Also, with no linking to any existing IL2FB installation you can run a dedicated server without even owning the game, which is a Good Thing(tm).

The Server could be unziped right into the FB folder all the files are there.

Most ppl running the DS are on broadband, thus the size is not so much an issue. If you really want it; and can't DL it, PM me. for a couple of bucks plus postage, I'll burn you a copy. (a couple of bucks to cover the cost of the disk and my time, I assume this will not conflict w/ the license agreement sense I'm not making a profit)

No, I've just found that ppl don't appreciate things when there free, like patches, DS, these forums, and Oleg's advice. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Bingo!!!!

IF you have to worry about the size of the DS download chances are you should not be running the server in the first place /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif It's design is so anyone can host and not own the sim.

If you run a OC3 or at T1 or a high speed Cable line, then what is 300mb to you anyways?

Connection speed isn't the problem, its hard drive space! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
