Apparently Gunther Prien took a different way into Scapa Flow than I do, because it has not been defended well at all from 39 to late 40. Infact it has gotten easier for me! I just managed to find the HMS Hood Moored in the middle..I have 4 front torpedos ready to go. All gas torpedos though so I will need to be close I know.

But where do I aim? Do any of you have any tips? a 45k ton ship really scares me! :P I don't want to blow this!

just let loose and fire all your torps but a bit scattered throughout the ship for maximum damage, i u have external camera enabled go check the side of the ship to see if it has anti torp armor (sorta like sloped a bit to deflect torps away) aim beneath it or near the bow or stern where there shouldn't be, then after shooting all torps on target get away from there as soon as possible, then reload and go again if the target hasnt sunk or there are other juicy targets to hit. if the target is stationary always aim for the stern since you could hit the propellers and permanently disable/cripple the ship while you reload and hit it again, also there is were the engine and fuel tank is located (usually)

I dont remember what Supermod you are running. Does your Recognition Manual have the color coded "Hot Spots" in it. If not, check out this link :
Shipchart (http://www.34thflotilla.com/resources/shipchart.pdf)

The Hood does not appear here anyway, but this is what I am talking about. I think GWX or WAC has the Hood included in the Rec Manual in this way.

I am using GWX 1.02

Hood isn't on that chart :O! and my recognition manual isn't color coded http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Edit: wow never heard of that armor before, I'll have to take a peek !

I'm gonna try the full spread across it of all 4 :O

Liddabit, try aiming under the Hoods' big main guns - you should spark off her ammo bunkers.

I'm sure you know, but save your game before firing, just in case she doesn't go down.

Oh, and remember to get some screenshots for the Screenshot Comp eh? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Gas torpedoes set for slow have a range of 12.5 Kilometers, so you dont have to be close. Electrics are the short range ones ( less then 3500m) I'd say since you can actually see the ship, stay about 4500m away and use the medium setting on your torps.

I'm useing a real cheap way of sinking moored ships. First off, it has to be daytime, yes, daytime! Set a magnetic steam torpedo to 1 meter below waterline. Now, fire ahead of the engine room. The ship will see the steam trail and magically fire up its boilers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif But in this case, we will be grateful for such mistake. The ship will jerk forward, and the torpedo will hit it in the engine room. This is enough to sink a ship the size of Nelson battleship with only one torpedo! This does not work particularly well with carriers, since they do the 0-25 knot magic and you are very likely to miss the engine room. But it never hurts to try!

Oh, this works in stock and patched game. Not sure of the super-mods

I sank the Hood awhile back of the coast of Portugal. I was in a Type XIC, took all six torpedoes I had loaded. It's the biggest ship I've sunk in SHIII.

Woo hoo I fired 4 torpedos but she sank on the third. 1 each at the first 2 turrets , then 1 at the 2nd boiler tower thing. The boiler hit seemed to down her. the 4th hit the back end turret just for fun I guess. First try too! Getting out was a lot crazier than usual, tons of planes cought me when my bridge popped up before I reset my depth and started bombing my area. Then where I had to surface to navigate between the sunken ship obsticals I had 2 V&Ws firing at me from over a small island. They couldn't get to me and their shots weren't very accurate from so far but it gave me a scare!

I'll organize and post the pictures when the wee ones are back asleep http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Oh yes I almost forgot,

The escape! Full speed ahead with flak guns blazing , nearly hitting the the sunken barricade ship while paying too much attention to the planes and the V&Ws shooting at me, and snapping photos :P!

And the log!

Yes it is. When I first took that screenie I mentioned the same thing. Found out later that it is a known bug in SHIII.
