None of them are specifically designed for Windows Vista (however they still work just fine on Vista and Win7 with minimal tweaking and some fighting with the installer).

None of them come with a hard copy of a manual. Unless you print the PDF yourself.

The ONLY version to get is IL-2 1946 as that version comes with all previous products and materials and is the only version that you can play online with the majority of the community. IL-2 1946 is considered version 4.07m and there are currently two free patches that bring it to 4.09m. A 4.10m patch is in progress. These patches are ONLY available for the IL-2 1946 product... it's not worth it getting the others.

Birds of Prey is a separate product designed originally for the console market by a different team. It is what we call "flight sim lite" in that it has sim like attributes but it isn't as detailed as the rest of the IL-2 series - it also has fewer planes but it does have nicer graphics in several respects.
