Since I have only been flying for about a week or two now, I am mostly still messing about in the quick mission builder...

One of my favourite things to do is to attack heavy bombers with a spitfire...

I allready managed to bring down four B17g bombers with a spitfire.mk.ixe and land safely (only got hit twice, no damage visable), but cannot seem to bring down four B29's... (I either die or run out of ammo)
I have a feeling though, that it is possible...

My question is if anybody has done this (track?) and how to best attack them...

I can remember going after a flight of 12 B-17's in a 109K4 with gunpods and only being able to bring down 5-6 of them before my engine would give out or my windscreen would be so black with oil that I couldn't get a solution.

It's certainly a lot harder than with 109 or FW. Not quite the same without the MK108 boomstick. 60RPG doesn't help, either.

I kept getting 3 bombers, then pinged on the engine. Here's a particularly neat one, with a picture perfect crash landing, too. Cockpit on, ace gunners.

If you have all the time in the world to set up, you could just do head-on, head-on, head-on, head-on. The instant you get frustrated and attack from the rear, it's over.

That includes german bombers too, like HE-111 and JUs?

Any bomber. Mainly, the AI gunners don't usually hit you if you come head-on. For example, the B-29 dorsal turret has to turn a full 180 degrees you fire at you, and by that time, you're already long gone. But, it takes forever to set up all those head-ons.

Against the He-111H6 I would come 12 o'clock high. The nose cannon cannot elevate upwards, only downwards.

Sorry, my shaw site seems to be broken. This one should work.

Ahhhh!, you were so close to bringing that last B29 down..! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
And incredibly nice work on that first B29 flying straight into your sights... He didn't stand a chance...

Well, it is certainly possible, so it seems, so I will have something to do tonight http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Quite the challenge..!

Thank you for posting this track for me to watch FritzGryphon...

And about taking bombers head on...

There is another reason for doing that, which involves the saying:
"aim for the pilot(s), not the machine"
(no idea who said that somewhere during WW1, but it can bring any plain down with a bullit or two, especially a B17)

I usually go for the engine though... if it burns, it will go down...

It can work. I think I got at least one pilot kill in the track.

But 1 shell in the engine front makes it burn, so...
