Recently I was in Europe and had a chance to drive the German autobahn in a Mercedes. WOW!

What a total blast flying along at 230 kilometres/hour. The car was completely stable on that wonderful highway. Ahh German engineering.

If anybody gets a chance to drive the autobahn they should. But be sure to get a good German vehicle like a Mercedes, BMW or even a porsche to do yourself justice.

you should have taken eine Schweinshax'n mit Semmelknoedel and/or Sauerkraut and eine Maß Bier, that's most authentic....
well not really because most germans (at least in my age) drink coke and eat at mcdonalds. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

You are mad. I know someone who saw a Mercedes wrapped around an autobahn light column like a banana. Tire blow- outs can happen to anybody, anytime. At that speed you have no chance- repeat, NO chance- of survival.

funny enough, i think it is only 5% of german autobahns that acctually have no speed restrictions if you take all the construction sites that slow you down into account.
i have to admit though, it is amazing when you are cruising at 140kmh in a BMW 3series and when you floor the pedal you acctually feel a strong response http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
hitchhiking in germany once i caught a lift in a 911. the guy sticky taped a 50DM bill to the inside of the windscreen and said: "mate, i am going to accelerate now. if you can grab the bill while i do it, it is yours."
what followed was the most awesome display of raw power i have ever witnessed. i didnt manage to grab the bill btw.

LOL

hope you have a chance to drive really fast once!

At 270Km you start feeling the "tunnel vision" getting on.

My home is about 200Km from work. Lot's of driving /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

There is one very important thing about german cars: They BRAKE from these speeds!

Although my best car was American. I had a Corvete C4 Indy500 edition for some years.
Driving 285Km/h with the hood down! Amazing piece of engineering!
Unfortunately it rains a lot in Germany and this was not a car for wet roads (and a wife and kid) /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Drove from Nurnburg past Munchen to Neuschwanstein Castle. A95 I believe. I like Bavaria.

Or an Abrams tank.. I never forget the time I was driving down the autobahn and a convoy of Abrams tanks were scooting along at 45mph+... talk about passing with your blinker! Man my little BMW 1800 was shakin... or it might have been me.. in that when you pass them tanks.. all I could see was the road wheels and tracks spinning round and round.. And all I could think of was if that 18 year old driver was the guy passed out at the rock palace the night before.. One little yawn and by by BMW 1800 /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
