Somebody here posted a link to a Günther Rall interview @ history.net about a year ago.

At the time i bookmarked it with the intention of reading it soon. However, i only finally got round to reading it tonight (out of boredom), and i have to say it is well-worth reading!

I've always had a tremendous amount of respect for Günther Rall - maybe not so much a character of the Jagdwaffe as a strong personality/leader and stalwart (albeit the 3rd highest scoring one) - but now i like him even more!

For anyone who hasn't read it - here it is: Günther Rall Interview (http://www.historynet.com/aviation-history-interview-with-world-war-ii-luftwaffe-ace-gunther-rall.htm)

Enjoy http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I wonder what has been wrong with the documentaries I've seen. They never interview ones like him.

Maybe he just wasn't up to relating his experiences until recently.

From a personal point of view, My father didn't say anything about his time in the war (2/16th Battalion AIF) until a few years ago. Every year he would disapear on ANZAC day to havew a few drinks with his mates and avoided saying anything to anybody else.

It's only recently that hes started to open up. He invited the family to become associate members with his battalion association and we've been going along to the functions.

Every time I've been to one I've hear stories about what the diggers had to put up with, and sometimes I don't blame them for taking their time in talking about it.

Seek out the "Hunters In The Sky" 4-DVD set. You'll see interviews with Rall, Galland, and Hartmann as well as other Axis pilots. It's a fascinating series. There may be excerpts on YouTube if you want a preview.

Not really sure why the recorded documentaries of many of the all-time great aces (regardless of side-affiliation) aren't done or included more often. Not to take away from those that have been done and certainly not to say a pilot with 2 kills didn't contribute as much as one with 200, but it would seem an extensive documentary on a couple of the remaining experten would be fantastically recieved in general.

I'm not in the biz, but if there's a petition or something other to sign to get a few of these done, I'm down for it.

Yep.... Maybe people would ask themselves questions about the History Channel and their 500 to 0 score for the 51.
