When the German pilots saw the Spitfire they became physically ill and were unable to fight. Hitler demanded to know what Germany needed to win the air war, to which the only logical reply was:

As long as the englishman has his Spitfire we shall desire blind pilots!

This is a true story told to me by anonymous engineers at North Amercian Aviation.
