Seems like Black Cross Red Star mentioned rockets being used at upto 5500 meters range .

Seems pretty far, just wondering at what range do you ground pounders use these things ??

You're kidding me right ?
Can you even see ground targets that far out ?

I shoot at about 200m. That is, if you actually want to hit something.

Historically, IL-2 pilots would lob their rockets in the general direction of the enemy and call it a day. Unfortunately, this does not work well in IL-2.

i use 200m on my rockets, using machine guns to range with, have a pretty good kill ratio with rockets this way, even got the odd heavy fighter/light bomber this way (heavy bombers are 2 easy with rockets)

Well in my short Il-2 career I've ben using 500m or down to 300 , but when firing sixteen of the things at a convoy or column it's hard to tell what effect they are having /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Just confirmed Black Cross Red Star vol2 p.163 says the combat range of the RS-82 was 5,500 to 6,500 yards . !!

I guess it does depend on the target. certainly must get close to hit an individual vehicle, but have heard some suggest standing off from the target is the best tactic in a ground attack campaign.

My best trick. 100M range with a .5 second delay. Get behind a fighter and BLAM!!! Blows them out of the sky. Great fun. As for ground targets, I generally fire in the general direction and hope something hits. Even at a very close range, its damn hard to hit.

500 meter delfection, roll in from 1,000 meters. At under 500 meters of altitude I open fire aiming a tad high on the target from around 200 meters out, and 400 meters high.

Cool thing about rockets is as long as there's smoke coming out the back they're stil accelerating. Unlike bullets which start as fast as they can and begin decelerating when they leave the barrel.

Every take-off is optional, but every landing is mandatory!

Real rockets, like in P-47 and IL-2, were fired in salvos.. you missed most, but one or two might have hit doing the damage. However, in FB, its every easy to hit rockets.. Generally I set my rocket convergence to 100-200 meters, and rockets go exactly where you shoot them.. With Il-2 first series you can destroy up to 8 tanks, with those 16 rockets.. devastating..

Only in the 262 have I messed much with ground targets and rockets. rockets set at 1000 with max delay. use the max zoom come in at a 4045 degree angle, when the target is in the crosshairs and fills the target, pull the trigger and pull up hard. After the blackout I hit about 70% of the time. Saving cannon for the trip home.
Back in the day the I-16 and rockets could knock planes out of the sky. rockets set at 350-375, during a head I'd let one set fly when the opponent was at about 500 meters. mostly cripple 109s and down lesser armed planes.

Thanks for all the replies guys!!

So far I've been firing the rockets in salvos pretty much .
Maybe this weekend I will have time to play around with these some more.

Would be good to be able to take out 8 tanks in one mission, but I might stick to a somewhat more historical attack procedure. hm, . Gee this game is FUN!

well maybe 1 km, if you are aiming at parking ramps w/ planes sitting on them then u can lobb them in. for more precise hitting 400mm and closer.

OOOH, a ramp full of parked planes! Oh that just sounds so juicy, I hope I get a chance to try that!
