I went from a 9000Pro128 to a 9500Pro128 and saw a decent improvement.... I just got a 9800Pro... I couldnt pass it up..the lowest price I have seen yet.. I guess I should have asked this first but.... can I expect a large improvement in FPS and overall image quality or just so- so? I havent opened the card yet anmd I wont till tomorrow... since i have to redo my whole setup with this great new desk I got for a steal... I do mean a steal too... a $199.99 desk for $19.99.. it is a little dinged ansd sxratched biut it is nice and beats my current one. Give me a % if you can.... 25% improvement? 50%? My curent 9500 is an Xtasy card if that matters..it is a good card but I just want to max this thing out.... one more upgrade..TIR with my LOMAC coupon and I am done for the next 2 years.

I went from a gef4 ti4200 to a 9800Pro. A friends machine has a 9500 Pro. This was what I didn't expect.
After installing the card, on the first mission, returning to base and circling to land, in the distance I saw sunbeams breaking through cloulds with shadows over the city. That convinced me I should have done this earlier. Your question is directed at performance/improvement, but I think you'll find your immersion in FB more enjoyable. Hard to put in words.

BearDude, if you got an SE card, return it and wait for a decent price on a better card. If it's not a SE card, then congrats! You're gonna love it! Not so much for a boost in fps, but the better quality.

Nope Lucky..no SE..Im aware of the SE bait & switch... This is a 9800Proi 128. I even went to the box to check just to make sure. And for 199 it cant be beat.... not at the moment anyway. I just didnt have $400+ to spend on the XT I wanted. At Best Buy they go for $499.. even with my discount id be paying $460 9800Pros are going for $246 with the employee discount... I think $199 is GREAT!! It was the $70 INSTANT rebate that got me too.. Its not like I had to drop $300 on my card... $230 and its mine//mail in te rebate and take the wife out to dinner in a month or two.

Had to join in the 9800 owners club!

Like Steve I went from a Ti4200 to a 9800XT.

Performance change was pretty good but the IQ is outstanding.
Nice buy Bearcat http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

well in forgotten battles i did not see that huge difference, because even with my 9500pro i could play with all details on 1600x1200. except of course for leningrad/berlin, but here i get low fps also with the 9800pro.
however the difference with lock-on is huge! my personal bench mark, the landing approach in the first a10 training mission gave me 14 fps minimally with my 9500pro, now i get at least 24! and i also hardly drop below 20 on 1600x1200. great card

hi,
Today i went from an ATI 9000pro 128mb to
ATI 9800 pro 128mb. It is certainly the money worth. Better view and a bit higher fps.

Bear,

Let me know how the install goes. I believe that you have the same ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe (rev 2)?

I was lucky enough to get the last 9800Pro at Compusa today. And I even opened up the card to read the label on the circuit card.

Now maybe I'll upgrade at 2600 Barton (which I can't overclock without instability) to a 3200 Barton.

Thanks for the tip on the Compusa sale. They told me they don't give rain checks.. so we were lucky.

And when you get done with both the CPU and graphics card update, send your PC to me for extensive testing AJ!!!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Yeah AJ I have the same board.. Ive thought about upgrading the CPU but why bother..Im good for now with my 2500 OCd to a 2800... I like the card.. I dont see killer FPS.. I could if I turned down the settings a bit but they are better... in a Pony I get @55 in the pit..which is great with quality settings... I tried the individual tweaks..but I get good frames... good looks.. what more can i ask for.. I still dont need perfect though... it is a waste IMO... not worth the frame hit. But thats me...
