When i play far cry outside everything is perfect, no slowdown, no graphical issues or anything.

When i go inside however, all the shadows are covered in a layer of white dots that kind of dance around. Its only when light shines on where there was originally a shadow. It happens mainly on metalic things (such as the big machine and the elevator in the research demo) and on models (like the people and the knife, but not the guns).

I'm using an ATI Radeo 9800 with an AMD 1800 and 512ram, with windowsXP. I can't remember my driver version and im not at home to check and I havnt tried it with different drivers because i dont want to download them (on 56k) if it's not gonna solve the problem. Anyone had anything similar?

thanks

White dot's in DX9 features with the 9800 series usually means that your GPU is overheating. If you have overclocked the card then try backing the core off a little. If your getting texture corruption instead of pixel then the ram is overheating.

Also try running 3DMark03 as this usually shows up simmilar white dots, this would confirm it's the hardware instead of just with the demo :-)

A7N8X - XP2100 @ 166 x 11 - 768MB PC2700
Sapphire 9800np @ 397/378 d2d use
Max 3DMark03 6015 at full OC's.

I really hope it isn't over heating cos i dont overclock it!

I got my card off of ebay and it was fine for about 2 weeks but then the fan stopped working and my computer hardlocked. I went to my local computer shop and the guy suggested i replaced it with an overclocking fan for a geforceFX which i did. If it is overheating then i don't really know what to do, could i just point a couple of fans at it? The fan i added on is glued to the chip with heat transfer cement stuff.

you said you were on a 56k?

did you install the drivers from the original cd?

If so then they are 3.2 Cat drivers. and we are now on 4.3 , Crytek said to have nothing less than 3.9 drivers.

lmfao

The white dots are supposed to be on the walls, and some of the shadows, its a dx9 feature.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I just upgraded from a gf3 to a rad9700pro.

I've even run my rad9700pro in pixel shader 1.1 and there not there, which is the same as my geforce3.

These are the white dots that I mean.

I got some drivers off of a CD quite recently (about a month ago) how do i find out what version they are?

From Experience its usually graphics drivers, So check in OPTIONS on in Control Panel/Display/Advanced.

make sure your drivers are above or 3.9 version

And when i used to have a ATI 9000PRO 128mb Powercolor , i overclocked it just a tiny bit once and from then on i had Texture errors all over the place on games, like green and purple etc... it never went away no matter what drivers i installed ( i think it bust me card )

But please try driver update before anything.

you sure u never used MS Paint on that http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif lol

I just spent ages downloading the very latest drivers from the ATI website. The problem is reduced, it doesnt happen half as much, i just notice it occaisionally on people when i shine a flash light on them. I can live with it. I think i must have damaged the card when the old fan stopped working.

My image host went down, all my images everywhere are reduced to red x's. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I'll try underclocking it, will 5mhz make much of a difference?
