See this? This... is our EVIL DEAD BOOMSTICK!

It's an action-packed, double-barreled Remington stuffed custom map. My & Setho's top of the line. You can find this in Far Cry 4 PC's department. That's right, this sweet baby was made by SETHO-1 himself. Mods applied from Steve64b. It's got interactive sounds, cobalt-blue effects, and some custom triggers. That's right... shop smart: shop S-Mart... Ya got that?!

All you real Far Cry / Evil Dead fans out there probably know Setho-1's excellent Get My Boomstick map on PS4. The budget was tight, but that didn't stop it. It came back on PC. Big time.


For God's sake! How do you stop it? Check it out on Far Cry 4 on PC. Search smart, search "Boomstick", or play on PS4 via MapSwapper (http://maps.farcry.eu/swapper?map=6217480). YA GOT THAT?:D

I'll probably do a follow-up video after a while to showcase some of the oddities in this map. And to prove that it can be completed! :)

Failing that the video on my 2nd play through will show some of the things in the map But I know there will be stuff I missed.

Unsure where to find it but SETHO-1 mentioned a scene from the movie with the tree branches / vines, I went out of bounds on my 1st play through so stuck to the road on my 2nd go.
Tomorrow I will play it again and look for any extras.

There are some very cool mods in this map with interactive sounds :)
Don't forget to watch Kemet get roasted in his stream tonight.

It was my pleasure Salvenius! After seeing SETHO-1's PS4 map, I was really keen to see what editormods I could do to bring this to the PC platform with a twist. :D

Here are some fragments of the mods in this map, spoilers for those who haven't seen it yet:

To get the blue fog/lighting effect, use the piano. There are actually 2 different trigger effects hidden in that room. The other one going up is a more intense variation of the effect, I hid it away because it may cause seizures. Or at the least, it's really disorientating. :D

My mods are designed to work on vanilla Far Cry 4, so they play just fine on anyone's game, without having a mod installed. To create these effects, I used code from the Alarm Point (trigger audio sound on interact/use) as well as the proximity mine (doing 0 damage and playing a sound on proximity). I also made the Sambar nonblocking, so it could phase through the wall & be 'mounted' there. Finally, the axe, 'Henrietta monster', and 'Mirror Ash' make use of existing models, where I override the material as well as object size (scale).

Seeing these properties shows what this engine is capable of. I'm really hoping the Far Cry 5 Map Editor will be capable of doing these special effects natively from the Editor. It would unlock SO MUCH MORE creativity from editors!
On PC, I feel the "Object Preferences"-window would be a perfect place to tune parameters like this (lighting color/spread/intensity/frequency, object texture/logicmaterial, proximity sensor size etc).

Do you think the Evil Dead map could be a base for a MP map? Obviously the map itself would focus on creating the Evil Dead atmosphere with the assets & cabin, and would probably require quite some changes for the flow you described. I'd open up all doors, so they don't choke. Possibly merge a room or two in the cabin itself, or even blocking some off with closed shut doors. Plus get rid of the starter area, so people can't hide in 'remote' sections of a map.

Would there be a basic list of 'rules' for MP maps btw? Perhaps if there won't be early access to the editor, people could practice in the FC4 editor with ideas already?

I forgot to comment on this map here in the forums. I'm a bit more active in the Facebook group with things haha, sorry. Anyways, this was an amazing love letter to us deadites. The implementation of all the mods and faithful recreation of the original cabin in the woods was amazing. Seth and Steve truly did an amazing job here :)

Thank you Alpha_sgt_14! I was glad to have an excuse to do some mods to be featured in an actual map. I'm not too productive with the Map Editor, Setho-1 did an awesome job on the cabin. That allowed me to focus on the mods to bring the cabin a bit more true to the movie. It seems I like to try and recreate objects in my mods, and adding in a few gags along the way :)

on the map many new models were noticed - not from the game. How did you add them? (If this is not a secret :rolleyes:)

Actually, it's not possible to create new models for a map & have them show up in other people's game.

What I did however, was re-use the models from the game and change their texture and/or scale so they look different. A special case is the "Henrietta" head in the cellar - I think that's actually an elephant object which instead of the elephant model, has a 'human' model loaded. Models and skeletons obviously can't be mixed easily, as they don't match. But I just wanted an animated head on a long neck though, and it seems that loading a human character onto an elephant "trunk" accomplished just that. At some point I also used a macaque as base, not sure which one prevails in the published map.

I wasn't sure if I could get the desired effect at all, so I had to test multiple options. Here's a funny work-in-progress test that shows the Ajay model used in several animals:

Yep. It's a shame not all assets are loaded in the vanilla game, because the objects in your screenshot would require a mod to be installed on the player's PC. I make my mods so they work without requiring people to have a mod installed, so everyone can enjoy them. Even people on PS4 actually... :)

I made this map for far cry 2 called "evil dead" ps3 vers, by siliconghost or karr2966, its been ages man cant remember what handle I pubbed with, so yeah, your map layout is just like mine and its f-ing with my mind, how the universe makes similar copies of us... its b even sikker if fcv could unlock public player matches so we can go tdm, mine was all 4 I think, dm, tdm, ctd, upr,, I'm gonna fyre up the old box and have a quick filmn 4 ya... great work and the fcv map listing is ace too

oh and as far as wondering how it plays ... we would spaw hunt in the woods behind the house and the house becomes a kill zone for noobs, I made a secret laddered basement and would harness ieds to the floor boards and boomstick the ***kers from below , twas epic noob rage killing, machettes in the dark woods for a stealthy hack and tbag, ***k we played that map for 2 hrs straight once to 200, it was a main ingredient to my lobby poach serum for several years, all the joiners had to see on the board was EVIL DEAD, and it was insta-fill for your lobby, a good small map too, I took advice from max that one and made a four grid at 20k (half caff) on Halloween 2011 or 2010? (for the kids)

I could make the cabin I created tdm/dm just takes forever to be able to play test it also it's hard to get feedback on balancing and such atm thats how i ended up on here lol.

if you want I can give you 5 star/bug run/tune up with your evil dead map, I suggest renaming to "the evil dead" as in the first one?? just to be original cuz I think itll get done a lot
evil dead 2 was good also, e d 3 so on ash vs evil and the old ps2 game hehe.. chain saw melee need it for fcv...
you should make the portal,
too bad we don't have occlusion blox because I know of ways to create realistic portals that actually pull off the feeling of teleportations and u wind up in what you think is a different map ")
that's my bag dood ") RISE of the MODS!!!! yesss its was fun doing it in fc2 ") did several - star gate portal w water, labyrinth window scene, xenophobe ring station, far cry halo, maybe some more id have to fire up my ps3, will happen soon as I'm down to vidfolio my horror maps - close to 50 I bet (of 200+)
that's one regret not doing in my evil dead fc2 ps3 vers- I could have done the portal but I was in a rush to get the perfect pub date and it was like 1155pm on holloween, did that 20k in @4hrs
