Ilya,
To what extent these sailors/gunners be animated (e.g. do they fall down if are straffed or killed)? Seeing these multiple gun positions on Lexington makes me to renew my plea for you to consider modeling 4-6 human manned positions.

I remember you suggested that it is too boring to man in a static position, and you are right on that. However, if one can switch between positions, like in He-111, it could really be fun. From business point of view, your game may be more appealing for non-hard core flight simmers (before I get flamed, I do not play any games but FB).

Regards,
BusySilent

Let me get this straight..

Is this post about hard-core sailors that switch positions because the static positions are too boring?... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

I don't want to think about any "animated sailors" thank-you. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

Our sailors will be fully animated. At 8 am , 4 pm and midnight game time they will march out in perfect formation and man their guns in 8-hour shifts. They will converse with each other when there are no enemy planes in sight and occasionally crack jokes. After the shift they will march to the mess hall and stand in chow line, with the game alternating between fish, chicken and pasta every other day.

After that the men will disperse and proceed to take showers (alone or together) and then go to bed (yeah)

When under attack, they will put on flak jackets, and jump up and down when they shoot down any enemy planes. If any of them are hit, their neighbor on the left will begin running around frantically, flailing his arms and screaming "Oh Lordy Lordy! Raul, how will I ever live without you?" and then drop down and cry like a little girl.

That's the plan anyway, we'll see how this affects FPS.

Good thing we're not doing a Vietnam sim, I can imagine what you guys would be asking for then.

Although I think a sim could sell very well if it was called "Magical Acid Combat" or "Flying Without Wings: A Heroin Adventure"

I don't think it would be a good idea to waste CPU cycles to animate sailors. PF will feature more advanced 3D plane models and new FM and DM, which will probably take more CPU power than than in FB:AEP. Wouldn't it be wiser to concentrate on the FMs and DMs and try to keep the fps rates at a playable level? Animating sailors would be fun though but packing the sim full with not so important details can be a boomerang. Oleg said that current PCs are too slow and that he had to disable some FM routines. OTOH, the simulates animated water and stuff like that. Is that really necessary? I'd happily trade in these stupid waves for one of these disabled FM routines!
Luthier, i hope you will keep non flight important details at a reasonable level.

Wow, that sounds great. Will you include random insanity in which a random sample of sailors will "lose it" during battle and throw themselves overboard to their deaths? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You mean there will only be one .wav, so that all the dying sailors are called Raul? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

... and don't forget animals in forest, fish, dolphin and whatever ( ants ??? )
i almost forget, random earthquake, accurate clounds moving - i know a guy working on weather institut, he might help -, etc...
there'll be britain, perhaps including a break in fights at 5PM for tea time... would all that hurt the FPS ??????

and what about a flag let us know whom of us is involve somewhere in modelling and/or coding.......
( all right, this last one is way far rude... apologies )

Refreshing read!!

I've got a ****load of WW2-jokes if u need em for modelling, Mr. L.

Ex:
- "Why's the pope wearing swimmintrunks when he's showering?"
- "Cause he don't wanna look down on an unemployed."

/Ven

"Maybe for someone more easy to write something than to make something?"
- Oleg Maddox

I am glad my question was able to inspire so many jokes (some more lame than others).

All I meant to ask was whether there will be some variations of "animation" that we already have in Il2/FB, e.g., running figures from convoys and pilots running and hitting the ground after landing.

Luthier, simple "yes" or "no" will do but please feel free to use this question to fine-tune your jokes.

Respectfully,
BusySilent

Yea, you cannot mention animations and small detail unless it is plane related. I have tried before and it's a waste of time you will just get put down...and here they come...

...any way, hopefully some activity will be outside the planes in PF, but you won't get any serious discussion here.(IMO)

CHEERs.
