View Full Version : High Alt FM Question

Are there any plans to modify the high alt FM?
At altitudes between around 7000 - 11000M most aircraft have similar FM's and responses.

I understand that IL-2 was initially conceived as a low-alt ground attack sim and the high-alt model was not so important - fair enough. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

So will it be changed in FB? Or will we see an improvement in the next sim?

Thanks in advance S!

P.S : Thanks to whoever allowed me to post again!

Excellent Question !

All aircraft have strengths and weaknesses.

Being able to fully utilize an aircraft's potential is what a reality based flight sim should be all about. High altitude fighter aircraft by design alone should be able to dominate in their performance envolope vs aircraft desiged for lower altitudes.

If the flight models dont reflect where the aircraft was designed to have it's maximum performance it takes away the realism of the whole flight sim.

From what i understand it's modelled below 10,000 meters

after that it isn't.

From 7000M up there really isn't much in it I'm afraid /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I think that to get a very good alt performance from planes youll really have to work on the cem PART.iM HOPING THIS IS WHAT oLEG MEANS WHEN HE SAYS THAT THE ALT FOR ALL PLANES IS WORKED ON(sry).

If a plane is superior to another at higher alt it is superior for the reasons???Mostly its the engine performance when air gets thinner and then its the shape of plane to get more performance in thinner air.

Well its the ability to keep the engine producing max thrust as air gets thinner.Click on a supercharger to keep the manifold pressure up...set the mixture for the amount of manifold pressure.....coarsen prop pitch to get more bite in the thinner air.

Come on Oleg/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
