It seems a more formidable aircraft since the patches. I just started flying it. It seems to turn well, but climb performance is lacking a little. But a definate improvement over 1.0

Man its a pounder. Those 50's I like to get side shoots on 109's,those rounds just tear into the thin skin 109's like nothin.Or sawing a 190's wing off.Yes it does lack in high ALT.but you get it in a really good BnZ and its all good

I do well TnB with the 40. I'm not sure if that's the ways it's supposed to be, but it is a very agile aircraft to me.

With the improved roll/control authority it seemed to get in 1.21, it's quite an amazing ride. More than a match for any 41/42 plane in the game IMO.

Since it stopped blowing up in dives (how did THAT ever get past the beta testers?) and with recent patches, the P40E has become one of my favorite early war rides. It can B&Z Zeroes all day and can turnfight with the LW planes. Very rugged and, like the Jug, can escape by outdiving everything in sight (assuming you stay high and fast).

By mid 1943, I move to the Jug, though. The P-40 is too slow for most of the midwar Axis planes.

My only caution is to watch prop pitch and rpms, you can over-rev it.

I was very happy it finally was fixed http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I've always liked the P-40. Flew a nice 30-40 mission campaign in Kuban with the VVS P-40's back in the 1.1 days.

Doesn't climb well but it has good dive speed, good firepower, excellent roll rate, and decent turn rate.

I have to admit I love the P.40. I fly it of it's available (any variant, lately mostly the E), and even though I'm far from a good pilot I always enjoy flying her, and somehow getting shot down in a P-40 doesn't hurt as much since it's so much fun to fly. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif It's a bit of everything, it can turn, dive, and dish out lead. You just have to know what your opponent is flying and adjust the tactic accordingly.

It's probably the best gun platform in the game. Taking shots out to 800m is no problem. Very stable and very little recoil (at least since Oleg greatly reduced .50 recoil because of complaints). P-40M and Yak-1b are best VVS rides available before 1943.
