I set up a mission with me in a 109, a wingman vs about 14 B-25's (various models) on a bombing run. Those are one tough bomber to shoot down. Plus their gunners are much better than the B-17 ones. I got shot down several times. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif The best method was to come in low, under their 6. Take your shots then break off. BnZ from above and lateral approaches are not recommended. Head on is OK but most efficient is from below and behind.

Great job on the B-25's though. Now we need then flyable http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I find the B25s pretty easy to down...

You are dead right, they are pretty tough!

BUT

If you aim for the top of the wing (the part BETWEEN the fuselage and the engines) they flame up real easy - must have bigass fuel tanks in there or something.

Yeah I've seen them take several volleys of 2xMk108 and 1xBK3.7 from my Bf110 and limp away, sometimes without an engine or a tailplane, but more or less alive.

For me B25 is very easy to kill. I set up mission with three B-25 and Zero. I dove on them from high six and sort cannon burst set the engine on fire and the bomber expodes in a while.

They don't stand up too well to some BnZing from the new flying artillery Me262 (is it the U4? the one with the 50mm cannon?). Shot down 4 of them pretty quick last night http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Must try again with a more realistic weapon...

Since I can't fly myself for awhile I have been loading QMB's with the new planes just to have a look.

With both the B-25's and attacking aircraft set to Ace those top gunners seem to be very lethal indeed.

I always have just enough fuel to arrive at the scene of my crash.

I found the B25 overly easy to kill. Its tail falls off just looking at a mk108 cannon shell.

Well, most things can be pursuaded to attend an appointment with Mr. Ground when invited by a MK-108, but I rate the B-25 as a tough nut to crack.

The late H and J variants have almost the same defensive firepower as the B-17, while at the same time being much faster and presenting a much smaller target.

Once its flyable, the B-25 will be excellent.

"As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - Gunther Rall

Tough they may be, but it sure is fun trying http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Have had most success with the TA152 - stayed REALLY fast and B&Z'd six of the things before my ammo ran out.... then I got wasted because I flew too close. Second most fun I had was in a 109Z with the "Default armament" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif that was just plane nasty (sic) vapourized them from afar... only got four before I got split in half http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
If ya want impunity go for the 163 Komet... Is so fast you dont get hit, BUT it is a bugger to line up for the shot precisely because of this - got four before I got bored.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Nixon-Fiend said it, shoot the wing root between the engine and fuselage and they are toast.

"Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary force:
You are about to embark upon a Great Crusade toward which we have strived these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking" - Gen. Dwight D. Eiseinhower-Supreme Allied Commander.
