Ok so Im playing AEP and I am messing around with the Tirpitz. As you all know it has a ton of AA weapons on it. The bad thing is that if I want to get playable framerates I cant have any other ships or AA firing except for the Tirpitz.

Now the mid-war and late-war WW2 carriers had far more AA guns than the Tirpitz. Couple that with the screening escort and the american/japanese battleships that were turned into floating AA fortresses and I forsee ALOT of lag.

Could you possibly cut out tracer smoke from MOST of the AA weapons and leave it on the bofors and/or the low ROF guns? Tracer smoke is a big frame killer and it is a shame Oleg never programmed it so that we can turn it off at will.

This topic will decide the success of this game. A solution must be made to handle the AA framerate problem. It will be no fun having AA bind up your system during crutial parts of the game. I would opt to turn off the eye candy and work on a percent hit system. For example an odds of being hit at a certain distance/speed from the enemy. A slow pass DIRECTLY over a enemy battleship 100% shootdown. A fast fighter pass 50% shootdown

I agree, I don't really want to see the tracer lines coming up towards me. Dont need them! Puffs of smoke are fine

I worry about this one too...early after the release was announced and Luthier could be found frequently on these forums, I and others asked Luthier about this very subject.

What worried me is that he wasn't sure there was a problem and I think enough people chipped in to convince him, but he just couldn't commit to an answer at that time or any time since that I am aware of.

The AAA problem would really destroy an aspect of this game for me...I have a decent rig and will probably upgrade this fall but if I can't go after a reasonable sized fleet then I will lose a piece of the game I'm looking forward to. I'd still buy it, but it seems to me just getting rid of the tracers/smoke trails would likely do the trick.

Yeap I am also in favor of losing the smoke trails in AAA. After all I´m no expert but uin WWII footage you dont see that much smoke a la FB style, but lots of brigth spots (tracers) with out to much smoke...

So just render the tracers with out smok trails, and it should be fine...

What about different color "balls"?

I played Mig alley and the AAA was very impressive. Different colored balls representing differnt calibre AAA.

Would this help frame rates?

As long as planes should have accurate tracers, colors and stuff imo the AA guns on ships should be dealth with differently.Maybe reduce the number of color tracers per gun and completely remove the smoke trails?

I mean PF is all about sinking a carrier defended by 20 fighters and I dunno how many AA guns.
