IL2FBwav for IL-2 Forgotten Battles
by Extreme_One's brother Dan of www.technomedia.co.uk (http://www.technomedia.co.uk) fame

Get it at http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~chapman/flightsims/oberstguncam/Misc/IL2FBwav.zip

With the "Radio Chatter Packs" now available for Il-2 Forgotten Battles, users can now increase the "immersive" feeling of the sim by having simulated "Radio Traffic" (R/T) playing in the background while flying. That's thanks to the sims ability to play "music" files while you're in the sim. The simulated R/T uses this function and instead of music, provides the users with that distant sounding radio chatter between other aircraft in the area.

Currently, there are "Chatter Packs" available for German, Russian and Japanese, but the list will no doubt grow as the community creates additional "newer" versions of the above mentioned as well as versions in different languages such as French.

The only downside of the Chatter Packs has been that if the user wants to switch sides, and fly for another country, he (or she) must open Windows Explorer and manually change the Chatter files in the "In-Flight, Take-Off and Crash" folders to the correct nationality.

The "IL2FBwav" allows the user to change the "Radio Chatter Pack" files from the desk top, quickly and easily.

Installation:

1.Download the zipped "IL2FBwav" into a Temporary folder and unzip the contents.

2.Double click the Setup.exe and follow the installation instructions.

3.When complete, locate the "IL2FBwav" short cut at "Start/Programs/IL2FBwav" and create a shortcut to your Desk Top.

4.Open the program.

5.IL2Fbwav will now ask for the location of the Forgotten Battles or Il-2 .exe. Use the "Browse" button to navigate to C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles.(or wherever you have installed FB) Highlight the il2fb.exe and choose open. Then hit the "Ok" button on the Setup window.

6.Now go to the directory at C:\Program Files\IL2FBwav and create three folders. Name one "German In-Flight", the next "Russian In-Flight" and the final folder "Japanese In-Flight" Place the appropriate Chatter files in each folder.

7.Then in each of these folder, create two subfolders, one named "Take-Off", the other "Crash". (NOTE: You may want to add a "G" for German, "R" for Russian or "J" for Japanese to keep things easily identifiable. Ex: G-Take-Off of J-Take-off.) Within these sub folders place a copy of one of the Chatter .wav's.

8.Now go back to the IL2FBwav "Control Panel" and select "File/New Sound Store" Using the German chatter pack as an example, name the new sound store "German". Use the "Browse" button and navigate to the "German In-Flight" folder you created, highlight it and click "OK".

9.Do the same for "G-Take-Off" and the "G-Crash" (they are inside the German In-Flight folder)
10.When complete, hit the "OK" button on the New Sound Store Window and repeat steps 8 and 9 to "Register" the Russian and Japanese .wav files.

Use:

With installation complete, all that is needed now is for you to decide which side to fly for. For our purposes we will choose Russia.

1.Open the IL2FBwav Control Panel and click on "Russian"

2.Click on "File" and "Load Sound Store."
3.The Russian Chatter Pack has been loaded into the Sim.

4.Close the Control panel, start IL-2 or FB and setup a flight with a Russian Aircraft.

Assuming you've followed the read me instructions included with the Chatter Packs, and have flipped the right switches and set your volume levels, you should now be able to hear the Russian R/T playing in the background as you fly.

Switching to another air force will from this point on, be as easy as opening the IL2FBwav Control Panel and applying, or loading the appropriate Chatter Pack.

Good luck and Good Hunting. S!

Thanks to Triple_AA for writing these instructions.

Just a big thankyou, extreme.
I usually use the Russian chatterpack and your RAF AI voicepack together. They make it much easier for me to immerse myself in the game, making it feel as though my sveno is a small part of a big war, rather than being at the centre of a mission written just for my sveno.
I'll try out the German chatterpack today, along with your new proggy. Cheers!

Very nice!

And, Simon, you're being too modest. I have a British chatter pack that got installed with something and I kinda guess it was your British folder or BoB campaign. It's a tad short so it gets kinda repetitious but what there is is excellent and much of it sounds like real radio transmissions.

Thanks for this utility! It's great!

The music in the takeoff, inflight and crash folders will play in ASCII character order (like Alphabetical order but including symbols like " * etc..)

Even though the manual said they'd play in random order. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Thats the reason you're only hearing the first file playing.
