1940-41? Why? We already have many of those planes?
Why not perfect FB? Why not Pacific Theatre or Med?

Only way I can see a BOB product making an impact is if it's orders of magnitude better than IL2/FB. And I don't see how that can be done, unless they choose to develop for system specs most of the installed base doesn't currently have -- if this is the case then it's a strange marketing/strategic decision indeed.

I think much of the acrimony in here stems from the fact Oleg seems to care less and less about what thoughtful customers really want? It's almost as if he sees us as an annoyance when we're the people who buy his product?

I'm interested in legitimate answers please -- I won't even bother responding to the previous post -- I'm wondering if others feel the same or if I'm out on an island.

Thanks

Because there was a poll of what people wanted, and people wanted BoB. Easy. I too find it lacking in imagination, but I certainly don't think it's being out of step with the community to follow the wish of the majority of the community.

The Med. would be interesting, I think. Very interesting. The Pacific is something I personally fail to understand the fascination of (from a simming point of view.) So large areas of just water with no landmarks and no radar guidance, flying around trying to visually spot an enemy that chances are you'll never see. Sounds boring.

However... I'm pretty sure BoB will be interesting none the less. I'm also sure it will sell in droves, which is good for their cash flow, and hence good for the chances of future development.

LMFAO why does Oleg Maddox have to care about any of this community AT ALL >>????

just because this forum exists & gives you a platform to air your thoughts DOESNT suddenly mean that your opinion counts for ANYTHING

we should be counting our lucky stars for the feedback & free stuff & add-ons that expand this awesome game

Hi Feiz,

You have no idea how sad it makes me to learn that you won't be joining us in the 1c BOB forums in 2005.

Sniffle. Sniff sniff.

Any chance you could talk Copperhead or DDT into boycotting BOB with you?

A BoB sim will have a much wider appeal than one based on the Med or the Pacific. Given that 1C are in the business of selling flight sim software this is an almost overriding consideration.

It was very brave of 1C to release the initial Sturmivik without a Western Europe or Pacific setting, but it must have hurt casual sales quite seriously.

Remember, die-hard flight sim enthusiasts might have preferred the Med, but such people are only a tiny fraction of total sales. In fact, if the Tom Cruise BoB movie is actually produced then it will raise the profile of the BoB even further in the crucial US market and a 1C BoB sim may turn out to be a very smart move indeed.

As for its having been done before - well, I doubt if we will have seen anything before a fraction as good as what 1C will produce.

I'm really looking forward to it.

Regards,

RocketDog.

I'm afraid an island is exactly where you are.

1C:Maddox has to be commercial above all else.
Oleg Maddox does appear to care, read some of the comments by people who met him at the recent ECFS show in Birmingham.
If this BoB sim is truly as promised, i.e. a great leap forward in the game engine etc, then it will should be enough for anyone to be impressed with.
Oleg Maddox has said that it will be the starting point for many further WW2 sims, covering other theatres.
Oleg has also said that the whining and abuse on this particular forum has led to a decision not to offer any more free updates after the upcoming one, just paid add-ons.

Maddox BoB won't be released until early 2005 at best. Wait and see and then make your decision about it.

Cheers.

Ladies & gentlemen, this is the captain speaking. Thankyou for choosing to fly Mandarin Airlines. Those passengers sitting on the left-hand side of the aeroplane please make yourselves comfortable. Those sitting on the right... please look to your left!

med campaign isnt as complex or as exciting as bob. or as large a scale. and bob is just a starting point for the entire ETO . the entire western front air war. which will probably have the med as a pay add on. people get with the program. oleg is making the game better. NOT worse. can anyone say spit 14 and air domination? isnt anyone getting sick of russian planes just a little? BOB has never been done well yet.

I agree completely with the majority in this thread so far. 1C:Maddox and UBI have to be comercial above all else. To make a sim of the Eastern Front was brave and at the same time maybee a bit comercially unsound. But at the same time, they made a name for themselves in the sim business.

I think the BOB is the perfect place to start. Think about it...the sim starts with the BOB and ends up where it all began.....on the Eastern front..in all it's glory. FB is much better IMO than IL2 and it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that whatever the state of computers will be in 12-26 months...it willbe better than now...and 1C will as always be at the forefront of flight sims. I think this nec=xt sim will be to IL2/FB what IL2 FB is to CFS, EAW & Janes....or better.

I'll tell you one thing, if 1C could get a dynamic campaign working in a BoB format it would be a BLAST! Especially if you could have input to the targetng decisions of the overall effort etc.
