View Full Version : Excited for Anno 1800! I just have one request...

Love the new era! 1404 was my favourite game (I am partial to the medieval period) but 1800 is looking fantastic! It should be a good time period - old enough to be quirky, though new enough to keep things fresh :)

But please please include SLI support for the new game! I still play Anno 1404 and the SLI support in that game is fantastic. It would be great if that could be implemented again - especially how demanding the newer games are on the GPU these days.

And throw in more multi threading for the CPU's as well.

Especially with things like Threadripper now a thing, good multi-threading is a must for eeking out good performance.

CPUs are almost always underused in modern 3D games though,
It's the GPU that bottlenecks performance, so dunno how much performance there is to be gained from this.

But in Anno games, the limiting factor is usually the CPU, as the simulation (and calculations) form the bottleneck, not the rendering of the graphics. I guess they could write some specialised routines to utilise the GPU for some of the simulation, it really depends how the engine works. If it is still mostly similar under the hood to a few years ago, the chances of it using the GPU for the simulation part are slim, as using the GPU for things other than graphics rendering (and machine learning systems) is a recent trend.

100% GPU 1080 usage over 25% CPU i7 usage on my system at least.

I stand corrected.

Especially 2070 and 2205 pushed our Engine a big step forward. As a traditional PC developer, we want to leverage as many modern technological possibilities as possible but cannot go into more detail yet. Our goal is that Anno runs great on older machines while allowing owners of high end machines to enjoy the benefits they get out of their hardware.
