Vidar, I don't have CFS2 any more (gave it away in disgust a long time ago), but I'd sure like to use your CQ page as a training aid for VF-51 if you don't mind. I'd also like to try to get some of our folks into a server with you all for some training once PF is out. I'm really impressed with your presentation, and I'm sure we'll get a lot out of it. <S!>

Be my guest Razor. The more that learn this now, the more fun it will be when PF hits the streets.

BTW, CFS2 is on the shelves now for only $18... hint hint http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/10.gif

LOL! If I have a moment of weakness the next time I'm in a software store, can you tell me what patches/mods I would need to make it worth while. Please don't try to tell me it's good to go right out of the box, because that will seriously degrade your credibility in my eyes! (not a fan of M$ flight sims as you can tell) http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Razor:

I am not one of the sim "big guns", but I am an experienced and current professional pilot. What earned a rebirth of CFS II for myself was the AVhistory 1% aircraft. Not only is their performance quite realistic, they seem to have realistic "flying qualities", meaning they are flyable, when sometimes the MS planes are not.

Try the F4U 1D. Trim is important, and I have set it up on my stick. make sure the trim rate sliders in "setings" are at an appropriate rate, which may be "min.".

Sone of these older sims cam be picked up at used bookstores for $10 or so, which is where I got my copy of IL2.

Good Luck!

CFS2 "out of the box" wasn't that bad. I mean it kept a lot of people going for quite a while.
Having the flight models set on hard is a poor but close approximation to IL2-FB planes at low level.
Visit www.netwings.org (http://www.netwings.org) for the bits that BSS_Vidar has listed. Better still visit the Blacksheep site, plus if you like visit www.avhistory.org (http://www.avhistory.org) for some planes that are +/- 1% of the real thing.
Use CFS2 as a guide only for IL2-PF carrier landings

Thanks you guys, I think I will do that. Like I said, I've never been a real fan of the M$ flight sims, mostly because of what I consider to be an awkward UI and view system.
The only reason I got CFS2 was for the carrier operations, and I found them to be cartoonish at best. I was flying online in WarBirds 2.7 at the time, and although the graphics weren't on a par with CFS2, the carrier ops were a lot more fun and realistic INHO.

I will get CFS2 again and DL the necessary patches to give it another go, if for nothing else, than to pump myself up for PF! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Razor,
You're right. CFS2 out of the box is quite irritaing for close quarter CQ training. Everything you need to tweek the settings is on the Blacksheep website in the Utilities Tab.
www.Blacksheep214.com (http://www.Blacksheep214.com)

Here's what you'll need:

1. CFS2 Multi-swap (Allows online missions play)
2. Shipyards 3 (Installs stationary carriers in allmost ALL CFS2 stock scenery)
3. MDL Edit (all aircraft set to "3") This gets rid of the dreaded CFS2 collision bubble.
4. last but not least... Teamspeak client version.

Two to three BSS members will be available to demonstrate and answer any questions.
For interested participants, I'll give the IP and password to our Teamspeak server in the Readyroom on the Zone in Highband.

OK, thanks Vidar. I got 'em all. I'm still out on the road now, but I'll let you know when I'm up and ready to join in on some training.

Yes stock would be better for the training. Model Edit doesn't (as far as I know at the moment) work on 1% planes. Besides which AVHistory used to have an upset with that and calling the model 1%

CFS2 wasn't all that bad, if you discount the overly easy flight models (corrected by AVSim and their 1% mods), poor campaign engine, poor damage modelling, inability to get close to another aircraft without spontaneously exploding, and one tiny little piece of flak could pretty well take out your controls. But the graphics were actually pretty good.

Nice job!

But the LSO would say... "Long in the Groove". http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif
This training session isn't for landing on the boat alone. We're gonna be teaching CV Case-1 Recovery, Holding/Marshaling, interval establishment, and basic comms and techniques in the patterns.
About 3 VF-2 Rippers are gonna be there to participate as well, so good formation entry, as well as coordinating multiple formations into the boat's airspace will be demonstrated. It's alot to pick up in the first session so we won't try to over-whelm anybody.

I've made time where I can be up an hour early at 9PM est on the Zone to help anyone out with CFS2 set-up.
It'll be so nice when we won't have to do this anymore on a "Cartoon". http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
