View Full Version : Small plea for P-47 armaments

Now that we have the P-38, it has pretty much put the P-47 out of business in the ground attack role. The P-47 needs some new toys to play with.

2x1000lb bombs on the wings
2x1000lb + 6x4.5in rockets
Wing drop tanks
HVARs (hey, I can ask can't I?)
Extra ammo + bazooka tubes and/or 500lb bombs (someone tell me whether or not this was possible in RL)

That's about all I can think of at the moment. HVARs aren't really "putable" on P-47D-27s, but since we don't have a D-30 or D-35, it would be a nice makeshift. Anyone else know of any other armaments the Tbolt could carry?

P-47 still rocks in the A to G department...but HVAR's would be great to have. Since we don't have a model capable of using them that seems difficult. I had no idea it'd take 1000 lbs on the wings...but that sounds deadly. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'd rather expand the P-51's armament to include HVARs and Bazooka tubes but one can only hope so much. Spits/Hurris need some bombs too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

All that you said, plus:

M-81 fragmentation bomb
20lb M-41 fragmentation bomb (in clusters)
100lb M-47 incindiary
500lb M-17 cluster bomb
108 gallon tanks filled with napalm

I even have a picture of a P-47D(25?) with 20mm gun pods http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

As usual, what Skychimp said. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
I'd really like to see some of the smaller bombs for the Jug. They would be harder to hit with, but more of a challenge and hence, more fun.

LOL, I'd be happy if we could utilize extra ammo with other ordnance loads.

Would I be offending if I put a small plug in for SeaFireLIV and his need for ordinance on the Hurricane?

I agree Zen, we need the Hurribomber too! Hopefully we will soon, I heard some Brits are looking up British bomb info for Oleg. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I mention this mainly because I agree with Korolov that we could use more loadouts for the P47, not just because of the P38 but because the P47 had them.

190's had more loadout options, so did Hurricanes and others. I'd just like to see more air to ground ordinance period, because generally I approve of total mayhem. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hell yeah - lets get some bombs for the Hurricanes and Fw-190s, too!

For one, I'd like drop tanks for the D-9 and A-8/9...

The Hurri could make use of some Vickers guns. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

I'd like some of the bigger droptanks for the P-47, if you're gonna start talkin' droptanks!
How about the 150 gallon paper mache droptanks?
Those were pretty cool. Or the 200 gallon 'flat' belly tank?

http://members.cox.net/miataman1/P47.jpg

Korolov

Mostly I'd just like some wing tanks, since I recall that wing tanks were used a lot, especially later in the war.

More drop tanks are fine, as long as we can fill 'em with jellied gasoline and drop them on stuff. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

Since the P-47 is a very good gun platform then how about 3 75mm Tank cannons or somethen.

The P-47 never mounted 75mm cannons during its operational career, I believe. It did, however, carry two 1000lbers, wing drop tanks, larger centerline tanks, and a number of early Napalm devices, and deployed all of them quite frequently.

Though, the fuel drop tanks would probably have little utility in FB, the Napalm certainly would.

yeah it could carry 2x1000lb
wonder if it could take 2x1000,+ rockets + 1000lb on the belly http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

While the P-47 couldn't make much use of new drop tanks, the Fw-190A-8/9 and D-9 could. Those things are big fuel guzzlers, and a drop tank would be very helpful (especially in offline campaigns).

im also very interested in the reason why i cant have 425rpg (3400 rounds total if additonal ammo is chosen) instead the default 200rpg (only 1600rounds http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif )when only carrying the rocketlaunchers ore just one Droptank ore bomb below the belly ??

if the Jug is full loaded, ok, than less ammo because of weight. but with these "light" loads there realy should be the full browning ammoload should be available http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
ore am i wrong ??

I *think* that the P-47's typically carried half ammo belts when they were fully loaded with bombs.

The full ammo belt is "extra ammunition" which is actually the standard.

Those were AP Fragmentation bombs loaded in clusters on the pylons.
They had a habit of not ejecting from the rack correctly and since they were small, if noone spotted the things still there, you would land with 1 or 2 still hanging and they fell off on landing. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/1072.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

They went boom and no more plane/pilot. I think they quit using them pretty quick.

How about a P-47m or N to deal with that Ta 152.
