Anyone else experiencing this? I going along quite nicely in the Finland campaign and I 've met the PE-8 on a couple of missions, usually 3 of them and my squadron tasked with intercepting them. I've tried loads of different attacks on them above, below, slashing attacks etc but every time their gunners rip my Brewster to shreds(and every one of my squadron). It reminds me of the gunners in the original IL-2 - laser equiped snipers. This only ever happens with the PE-8. Is there a way to bring down one of these beasts???

There is a way...try to make side attacks. I had the same problem, posted it and people here suggested to do such attacks. They work great, but I must say that it took some time and practice in QMB to be effective, as I was used to rear attacks from below...Yeah! The Pe8 tail gunner are real snipers, shooting down your engine at 500 m+...incredible! Hopefully, this will be corrected in the patch.

in my experience

Brewster + x = Death

where x is any plane between the value of 'wright flyer' to 'F18'

No! The Brewster is not that bad...I´m making quite well in finland campaign, most of the time against i16s...Ok, it´s not a Mig 29, but a good counterpart to the i16 and early war planes.

Lol, I wouldn't go quite that far! The Brewster really can hold it's own against early war planes, I'm in early 1942 and things do seem to be getting a little tougher though.

What's your gun convergence range? What's your tactic?

If I know I'm going for a bomber intercept mission, I set the range longer than usual, say 400m.

The tactic against the Pe-8 is the same in the buffalo as in anything else, and it's very successful. Climb well above it, at least 1000m margin. From nearly dead above, dive on it, and saw one of its wings off with a long deflection burst. Once you've gotten used to how the attack works, you almost always get one dive = one kill.

Cheers swingman, I think your right - my gun convergence is currently set to 150m which I never change. I'll try what you suggest.

Zoom and Boom works ok too with bombers.

I always like a head-on first, you might get lucky.

Here's a video I made on the subject. B-239 vs Pe-8 (divx)

Then on the second day, it was made bug free, and He saw that it was good.

If you look closer at the Pe-8 you'll see there are many guns covering the rear arc, not least the ones behind the engines (yes!). Look at the Pe-8 and try to find where it has fewest guns.

My best kill offline was with my crappy old Bf-109 F2 with the pea shooter 15mm gun. I downed 2 Pe-8:s in two attacks from high above and behind sparaying the entire hull with machinegun and 15mm bullets. Got pilot kills both times. A bit harder than a K4 with dual 103:s but so rewarding Felt really good!

Just a suggestion...
