Im hoping someone can help me with a sound problem i have whenever i disable hardware sound acceleration.

In FB (and BF1942) I get a slight echo or delay with some sound effects ... like firing the gun, or clicking on the menu interface buttons. Strangely, music, engine sounds, voices all are perfectly coherent with no echo/delay. This delay is not noticable when im not in game and when i play the .wav files from the game.

Also, this echo/delay disappears when i enable hardware sound acceleration, but i prefer to leave it off for other reasons (performance, other sound issues, developers recommendation).

Ive got a Soundblaster Audigy card and a fairly new computer. Ive just updated the latest drivers but makes no difference.

Anyone got any ideas?

I just read somewhere that Win XP doesn't quite like SB Live! Their suggestion? Try the latest drivers, or even better, get rid of the sound card. As an owner of SB Live!, I would try the first suggestion. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Got an Audigy2 with XP, here, with no probs @ all.

My suggestion:
Try to remove drivers completely, remove the SB from the device-manager and clean registry. If you know how to do it, remove the SB from your computer, before cleaning your installation from drivers, etc.
Now, reinsert the SB and
1. use XP standard drivers - they work rather good, but without EAX support for most games.
2. install the latest drivers ONLY. If you simply updated them, there may be a conflict between some remains from older versions.

Before that, be sure you disabled echo and the virtual Surround from your EAX profile http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Im not sure if this means anything to anyone but i noticed i get a bad echo in teamspeak 2 with hardware acceleration turned off and the sound driver selected as direct sound. If i choose Wave as the sound driver with hardware acceleration turned off the echo dissapears.

Maybe the game is doing something similar with some of its effects?

Precog set you sound to 16 voices in the IL2 setup and that will take care of what you are hearing..

On your IL2/FB cd there is a screenshot of how to setup soundblaster cards to remove some of the echo.

I can't recall it all right now, but I know you have to go into the contoll panel and play with the EAX settings.

I know what you're talking about. Play around with your EAX settings in the FB setup. Set the number of voices to 16. Try various speaker configs. If you still have problems, I'll post my conf.ini file and my Creative card settings here. Let me know.
