I have noticed that periodically the flaps will retract of their own accord, which can be particularly not good if you are say....um, on final approach. I have noticed this so far only on the P40. Anyone else? Is this a bug?

I haven't noticed this, might it have had something to do with your speed?

I dunno? My speed will be hovering around 100mph and I'll be gliding in nicely,(landing speed according to the manual is about 96 mph), when suddenly I'll hear the flaps retracting and I'll start dropping alarmingly.
So I redeploy the flaps and it takes goes through all 3 stages to 'Landing' again. I had have them retract in combat too from the 'Combat' setting. This you could put down to an excess of speed....perhaps. And of course I used to jam them all the time by trying to wash off speed with them...incorrectly. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

what do you use to retract and lower the flaps? you may have another key bind conflicting with the flaps.

Hey, good point. But alas, it's 'F' to deploy and 'V' to retract and I checked the set up and nothing else is associated with flaps. A poser I guess.

do you still get the little text message on the right of the screen saying flaps:raised or do they raise with no warning at all?

They raise without any text. I just hear them going.
When I redeploy them I get text then. Combat, Takeoff and Landing in that order as you normally do.

if you have flaps set to a slider or something similar they will raise and lower without the text message, so you might want to check the hotas controls. other than that, i am not really sure what would cause it. hope you can get it working though.

Yeah thanks for listening and suggesting. They aren't assigned to a slider either. It doesn't happen often, perhaps once in 5-10 missions, but usually it's then 2 or 3 times in one mission. Maybe it has happened to someone else but they haven't read this yet. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Anyway, I'll keep trying to figure it out.

how much RAM do u have? b4 i grabbed more RAM for my beastie (256->512) my joystick would go bananas from time to time, usually on longer flights like VOW, normally unaffected in DF servers (with my trademark takoff quick/die quicker fighting style), but i havnt had the trouble since i boosted the RAM. Mostly stuff like buttons pretending to be set to something else, a quit and restart fixed the problem, till the next time.

I've had over a Gig of RAM for a while now. And as you say, a quit and a restart fixes the problem until the next time.

Thanks
