I notice int he current sturmovik maps that the ground always looks washed out and bland, while in the original sturmovik I just assumed this was the Russian steppes green I soon got suspicious when I did not see the Famous russian yellow plains. Everything was the same green.

Now we got the Normandy maps which I sortof hoped would be a different green, however even with the criss crossed fields the same bland green appeared. It was like a complicated Russian steppe.

Heres hoping that Sturmovik will give us more varied and coloured landscape that looks real and pleasing to the eye.

I am not saying I hate the current maps, would just have liked to see more varied land textures.

Yes it will be very interesting. Especially how they do the island cliffs and rises.

Which brings me to another question. I wonder how htey will do the weather

that is what FB is missing - dynamic weather with wind conditions - making carrier landings REALLY difficult

Yeah, thats true, the weather is what the weather is in Forgotten Battles, what you start with never changes as far as I can tell.

I'd love to be redirected to another airfield or aircraft carrier in the middle of an approaching cyclone. THe wind bending over the trees etc.

I wonder whether scrambles will be model at Henderson field... HEHE

But really the Textures of the islands look to similar for me to tell one map apart from another. THere is sand snow or grass and thats it no variations on the themes.

Hey Edin,

I love your RNZAF P-40 skins, are there any more RNZAF skins in the making? I sure hope so.

Cheers,
CrazySchmidt. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm very sorry but I stopped making skins more then 1/2 year ago... I simply don't have the time to do them now. Maybe, if I get unemployed some day http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

That's one thing I really liked about the maps in CFS2. The water and islands always looked so inviting I got the urge to just drop down, ditch my Hellcat, and live out my remaining years on a pretty, isolated island... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Yeah, the IL2 land textures are preety boring. I'd like to see some nicer textures.

At least in the preview version, the water/coral textures were pretty nice.

One thing I'm not too jazzed about though is the sky looks a bit like a land sky, as somebody else noted. I think the sky should be more saturated in blue. Maybe that just falls under weather though.

I'm not expecting to be blown away by terrain graphics, after all most of the Pacific theater is just over water, and I'd prefer them focusing on the air more http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think land and weather make a huge difference to a flight sim. I would never wish this to compromise gameplay or framerates though

I agree, too often this is overlooked because people are only care whether the f-7f has the correct 7 -inch pre-war pattern exhaust stubs or that pilot's cup holder is accurately modelled etc..dynamic weather and land textures what make flight sims immersive. I don't have il2 but from what I've seen it looks pretty limited in this respect. The pacific has incredible cloud dev and emerald green atolls, but all I've seen is the same puffy clouds at 1 or 2 octas. Having said that, the water textures look absolutely stunning

Sturmovik does have nice ground textures its just that they do not vary enough. THere is one green through all maps with green in them. THere is one white for all snow maps.
The cities and vehicles are pretty good and you have to remember the frame rate.

I'd definite;y like to see trees com right to the water in many places. This is particularly needed because the japanese hid their small cargo vessels and barges right up almost under tree canopy sometimes.

This would make for some fun search and destroy missions to take out barges, luggers, and sea trucks.

Actually with Hardware shaders (Perfect mode) and Forest=3 set in conf.ini ground looks really nice...

Land textures are for Luthier's Tank Sim,

....and for flight simmers who never look up at the sky. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I did not say that the existing textures are not OK just that there seems to be little variation.

As for clouds this would also be awesome, and should have equal priority with weather effects
