Ya bunch of fruit tarts! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I kid around and the others that do shouldn't be taken seriously.
Fly what you want.
That's not only VERY obvious but also one of the great things about this game, choices.

On the same note.... don't be THAT guy.
You know the guy who flies around and brags about how good he is when he's flying a La-7 (for example).

I think the standard or a ranking of what plane is harder to get kills in is important for this reason, but don't get carried away with it.

People should be able to enjoy the plane they want to fly.

I like challenging planes myself; others like easier settings and/or planes.
That's the beauty of choice.
Don't assume your likes are the same as others.
The people that are a total opposite of me are the ones whom say, "No one wants to fly the 'bad' planes".
I say those are the fun ones to fly.

Bottom line: some people need an enema.

They're ALL n00b planes.

Think about it. When a n00b gets it, what's he do? He flies a plane. Different n00bs will fly different planes, and will often use many or all of them while still in their n00b stage of development.

people fly these n00b planes not because they like the plane, but because its something that can outperform and outgun everything else to = easy kills high points and high ego. Like i fly the spitfire not because of its overmodeed looks well actually i do fly it because of its uber looks. Uber planes can be frustrating to the lesser plane people specially the one shot kill ones, even tho the spit isnt a lesser plane http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif just annoying watching planes soak up all 6 seconds of cannons.

Unless there's a serious bug or a historical precedent, there are no n00b planes or looser planes. Just pilots flying aircraft with different abilities.

My favorite is to go on a dogfight server and take out any competitive version of a fighter in WWII (depends on the plane set to determine competitiveness - ie. the year) and every time I land I change aircraft and shoot another person down. My speciality is to fly everything I can and try and be good at it...

There are planes that are sometimes easier to fly but the differences I think are minor. An easier to fly plane gets you learning tactics and manuvers...once you've figured that out you can pilot some of the trickier ones - those are usually the most rewarding.

Try a P-47 in a dogfight server and see how many you can take down with it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I didn‚'t call you a n00b for saying the same thing.
Actually here‚'s a recap:

quote:
Originally posted by BpGemini:

quote:
Originally posted by jung0l:

Wrong-O, I loved flying the P-39 in the original IL-2 because there wasn‚'t an easy exploit. It was mediocre in just about every area.

That‚'s what separates the men from the n00bs, the desire for a challenge.
Just saying ‚"no one would fly them‚"Ě screams that you would never understand.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Did you play the original IL-2?
I loved that P-39 but according to most that P-39 was hard to fly and be effective in.
It wasn‚'t uncommon for people to write, ‚"No one flies the P-39 because....‚"Ě
(IMO ‚"No one‚"Ě is an overstatement but they were trying to make a point)

The dedicated P-39 pilots knew how to use her but there weren‚'t any glaring exploits that a ‚"n00b‚"Ě could just jump in and know immediately, like with (for example) the climbing of the K4 or the speed of the La-7 or the turning of the Yak-3. These planes all have immediate exploits available.

Btw, the 20mm P400 variant isn‚'t in the game. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

The whole ‚"n00b‚"Ě thing is outta control on both sides of the view. IMO, I think the ‚"n00b‚"Ě label should exist but it should be applied to those who brag about skill while flying ‚"exploit‚"Ě-filled planes instead of being applied to those who just want to fly what they want to.

I don't buy the argument that any plane can be used successfully by a n00b based on a good quality of the plane.

Bear in mind what a n00b really is. The best turning plane, or fastest plane, or best hitting plane, or even if 1 was all the above, wouldn't help someone who really was a n00b be successful against non-n00b pilots.

A n00b in a Yak3 won't know it's vulnerability to wing damage, or it's short ammo load, or the likely hood of blackout, or the VNE (which is applicable to anyplane). They will either go winchester trying to hit someone, black out and arguer, black out and be a sitting duck, or exceed VNE and auger, or pay no attention to the tracers passing them until their wings are shredded (and then come here to ***** about it).

Same applies for the Ki, and La7. Even the jets. I wouldn't call any BP a "n00b", and yet even an otherwise good pilot got into a jet last night for the first time and my comment was "it'll probably kill you", to which he agreed, and, even after I explained what to watch for, it still happened.

Every plane, regardless of it's strengths, has weaknesses and you must possess at least some modicum of skill and understanding of aerial combat to be effective in them.

Thank you Master of the Obvious!
Btw, you don‚'t have to buy the argument because it‚'s free.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Plus it‚'s reality. ‚"It‚'s the man not the machine‚"Ě holds true for the most part (hence the Master of the Obvious razzing) but you can‚'t truly believe that some planes don‚'t hold a stronger foundation for n00bs to get their feet wet in. Of course a n00b isn‚'t going to know ALL the strengths and ALL the weaknesses of a plane but the planes that have the neon sign pointing to a few ‚"exploits‚"Ě or strengths could be considered ‚"n00b‚"Ě planes. As I said there‚'s no need to exaggerate the label. For example, you‚'re not a n00b if you fly a Yak-3 all the time (i.e. JimmyGiro in the original IL-2 did a lot Ė certainly not a n00b) but for those few who think they are WAY better than they are be aware of what you are flying if you‚'re even considering bragging or finding an ego.

OK BP, apparently the post I was referring to was one of a few that I posted yesterday that for some reason didn't make it on the boards. But I basically was saying what's been repeated here a few times; as long as you are killing and satisfied in your ride whos gives a damn what anybody else calls it.

And I probably used the term exploit in the wrong manner. But as hard as the Il2 P-39 might have been, it still had a 37mm cannon to kill with. All I was saying that every plane in this game is able to compete if flown to its strengths.

Btw, the P400 remark was an example of sarcasm. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I don‚'t think too many people care who flies what (I know I don‚'t) just as long as the egos stay in check. Otherwise the ‚"Gods_Gift_to_IL-2‚"Ě pilots will have their ego bubble burst by a reality check.

The 37mm cannon is very nice but most complain about difficulty to hit with it. Not to mention if you‚'re fighting a Yak-3 you can be out-turned and out-run basically the Yak-3 dictates the fight while the P-39 pilot waits patiently for the Yak to screw the pooch (mess up). Now if that Yak-3 pilot happens to down the P-39 pilot shouldn‚'t the Yak pilot be aware that he had the equipment advantage? I mean in IL-2 AEP I find myself switching to blue because so many people want to fly the P-38. If I jump in a Zero and someone tries to turn fight me I‚'m aware (and feel sorry for) that I have the advantage (in many cases). This awareness helps to keep a person humble. I‚'ve seen WAY too many n00bs (who think they‚'re aces) spout off how good they are and they are the ones who always get pwned once they‚'re no longer in an advantageous position. Be realistic about what you‚'re flying but fly what you want. That‚'s all I‚'m trying to say.
