Just came from HL and there are some people that host 10+ Player coops on non suitable connections.

It is warpy it is laggy but they still host.
Well thats their own decision but be aware of it .

A good example how smooth and organised coop should look like is Crazy Ivans VFC Host Server.
(depends on your location tho)

But playing with pingspikes up to 4k with a lower max of 400 ms cause of multiple connections is just plain stupid and no fun for the reasonable gamers. When you host pls be aware of the Problem and reduce PPL Count to a suitable Number.

Thats is mostly influenced by your upload speed.
for a 128 kbit upload you can host safe 6 dsl connections 7to8 and more related to you netspeed setting . All under the premise of a Suitable PC to handle the hosting.

So low connection users think about it when you host.

Hyperion

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Not in a bad way at least i posted about you as shinning example of excellent COOP Hosting and Managing look above ! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif And was meant this way even when i normaly tend to use irony and sarcastic phrases .) (AI Planes made some funny moves tho but nothing to worry about)

I joined another coop the day after this excellent coop fun night.
And someone hosted about 10 to 14 ppl on a line that really wasnt suitable for it. and Ping got from 200 to 400 as all joined then up to 4k when someone was shooting. Was nowhere near fun at all final result was the AI plane ahead of me lost a tail from my gun then the tail was behind me and catched me from the back lol .)

It's not just connection causing problems like that. I've seen people hosting who normally have pings less than 80 when joining others games, but when they host it sux. Cause: low performance PC. It just can't handle the overhead of all the AI and net traffic, regardless of the fast connection.

i have a 128 Kbs internet connection (up & down)

i can host 6 ppl very smoothly , 8 & it isnt as good

i dont try more than 8 because i want it to run smooth

10 seems to be a majic number for many many people for FB online when it comes to hosting , you seem to need a good internet connection & computer to host smoothly over 10 people

apparently in my country its location doesnt hold FB back for hosting , we must have good internet infrastructure here in New Zealand

also the host computer power has a deal to do with how smooth a coop or DF room runs as they are usually flying in the coop or DF room on the same computer thats hosting it

FB is relativly freindly for internet multiplay which im thankfull for

Fed up of being shotdown by 56ers eh? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
BTW there's nothing wrong with playing on a 56 modem...if you're sensible that is.I can happily connect to US servers and have a ping of around 200, TBH it's the skin downloads that seem to be the killer.

ok .......

PING has nothing to do with how good a game your going to get

what you need for FB to run good is a Host with a powerfull computer & for all players to have a decent internet connection

most important is for ppl connecting to have good Upload speeds as well as Download

time & time again Ping is brought up but FB is different to a lot of other online games

PING is LESS IMPORTANT than Internet Speed & Computer Power when it comes to getting FB to run good online

so ..... : P

I got hollared at by a host last night........ http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I'm a 56ker, but I recognize my lack of good connection ruins it for others, so I left on my own accord. That's fair. (Honestly I probably woulda got booted if it happened again. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Some rooms have a disclaimer stating automatic booting from server if ping is over certain amount. That's fair too.

But I would really hate to see the option for DSL/ CABLE only participants.

I wonder what is the ratio of 56k verses DSL subscribers. In my area it costs about $50.00 US to have DSL (the basic version).....That's not a LOT of money but, I have other responsabilities to manage before I consider DSL even remotely necessary. I dont think I or others should be left out of online play.

Most hosts have a fast line and I'm greatful that they host for the benifit of all in the community... and in fairness I consider my connection speed when I enter a dogfight room.

I don't think thats fair. I would love to get DSL/cable connection, but my area does not offer it.

The connection as client itself works fine on 56k Modem as i use it on my Notebook i was only refering to hosting a 12 ppl coop game on this connection.

56k`rs are not bothering me at all. Leave them alone! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif They don`t cause any trouble to the host ...to some extent.. where MAXLAG takes care of the problem. What`s up with the hostility http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

One of our achievements at this period was the "Rosarius Traveling Circus."
This was a flight comprised of all air-worthy captured planes we could find.
They traveled through the West from unit to unit in order to familiarize our
pilots with enemy technique. The leaders could fly these enemy types themselves.
In this way we found out that we had usually overrated their performance.
The circus proved a great success.

Ok, this is getting stupid. These people hosting on 56k's also bought FB. You're not in a higher class of civilization just because you're on cable or any other broadband connection. People on 56k have as much right to host a coop as people with broadband connections. When you see a server with a high ping, don't join

Btw, Hyper, your sig should read "Adolf Galland" instead of "Adolph Calland" at the end. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

We were Joking little around dont take it too serious and yes its a typo in the quote not from me tho check on Robert E Shaw : Fighter Tactics and Maneuvering. Somewhere first 3 chapters i think. And maybe political inspired or from spoken name to text.) But you are correct should be more carefull with Quoting from Books they might include typos .).
