http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/10.gif I realise this won't interest 99.5% of you, but as supporting minorities is a Kiwi pasttime: http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Both Gamesman and GPStore are noting that the New Zealand Release Date for the Aces expansion is now the 8th of April, 2004.

For those trying to figure out why we are so slow, we get our shipment paired off from the Australian one (they got it on the 17th of March BTW).

It seems, like with gory FPS games, that the delay is now entirely down to the time the OFLC (The Office of Film and Literature Classification - censors for short) requires to check, evaluate and classify Aces, (also the Gold Pack as well).

So, if you were looking forward to only getting it 2-3 weeks after the US, and 2-3 days after the rest of the civilised world, think again....

Nevermind, we can look on one bright side - at least we won't have to wait for the patch to come out after the game. It'll already be out before we get Aces. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

as long as you are supporting the producer by ACTUALLY BUYING the product why not DL it in the mean time

its what a lot of kiwis have done

i myself have introduced 2 other people to FB & they also are buying the expansion

i have brought 2 copies of FB & have pre-ordered the expansion , (id lay money on me being the first pre-order that gpstore recieved for ACES)

im all for people actually buying the product from the producer as this is what keeps game companies floating lol

but then again im all for flying Aces with my squad at the same time as they are

Yes, I am buying it (Gamesman, & pre-paid for it already), but as I don't d/l things beforehand I wouldn't know where to look. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

Does anyone from UBI even pay attention? This is THEIR forum, with numerous people seemingly openly advocating pirating s/w rather than wait. Surely this is the best evidence yet that their staggered releasing isn't working. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif It wouldn't have made a difference in our (NZ's) case, but given by March 6th it seemed everyone else had d/led AEP this must raise the question of why UBI keeps doing it. They must be loosing a lot of sales due to this.

Anyway, we'll see. Hopefully the OFLC will realise that there is nothing objectionable and quick-release AEP for the apparently three of us in NZ that haven't d/led the thing.

I was looking forward to playing AEP over the weekend until the delay buggered this up, But maybe the delay is a good thing as I have read on this fourum that it has some bugs. Hopefully by the time it is released here there will be a patch out. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

According to Gamesman (who were the first to note the delay last time). the release date has been shunted back yet again. It was the 8th April, now it's the 16th April (presumably owing to the Easter break). So officially we get it ONE MONTH after the rest of the world! We're officially a third world matriarchal dictatorship. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

Three cheers for the OFLC. We can be ensured that they will have caught all those terrible horrible nasty things that could damage people's minds that the US, EU and Australian Censors have so obviously let through by classifying their copies so fast. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif We'll probably get the CD with no data on it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

And don't forget, we get this all over again later this year when PF comes out (apparently in November according to NZ). So 2005 for PF for NZ. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

No wonder people pirate so many games in NZ.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

Yep, its been a while. Hard to find a server not flying AEP but patience is a virtue and after all its a small price to pay for living in paradise, or tara-dise as in my case.

And after it arrives in NZ, I still have to wait to get it shipped to me in Korea.

As a Kiwi living in London I feel for your lack'o'supply, you will love it when you finally have it in your hands. I do hehehehe....

Console yourself with the fact that NZ gets to see most movies 3 months before anyone else.

Isn't that because it takes such a long time for the plot to sink in? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Howdy there fellow Kiwis,

Why haven't you guys just bought AEP from the States or the UK on the net?

Ciao,

Hello Kiwis and G'Day,
Ever think about be-friending an American. We are decent people for the most part. Then we could purchase the game for you and mail it to you. Some of that Kiwi money would be neat to own.
You could allways try Ebay.Just a thought.

You can run but...You'll only die out of breath.

I feel sorry for anyone who has to wait longer than us to get a copy. I cant find anywhere on HL to fly at tho mo. : (

Edit: Just like to add that the date keeps getting put back, if I knew this was going to happen I would have looked at finding a source from overseas rather than pre-ordering it, thinking I was doing 'the right thing'.

Owl_NZ
04-06-2004, 05:23 PM
For the benefit of the overseas viewers,

Had a quick glance at Amazon. Now, the way I figure it it costs $29.99USD right, plus shipping of about another $4USD (and with that you have to wait around two weeks and hope no-one steals it when it's being loaded or unloaded).

Now, USD vs NZ Bananas, I mean Dollars http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif, makes it $51.75 NZD.
GBP vs NZD (at Amazon UK) works out around $43.45 NZD. (And AEP is at 14.99 ATM, not 20).

By comparision, NZ costs $29.95 (off-the-shelf price).

Now, given with FB we got it two days after Aussie, we would all have reasonably expected the same sort of delay this time. In my case I don't buy many games so I haven't had the misfortune to see the OFLC in action recently, and also I thought UBI had decided everyone was getting it at the same time this time (as opposed to the fracas with FB, which needed the rest of the world to bail out hopeless US sales).

Hence why we (as in Kiwis), simply put our money down locally. It's just our luck that some of us (not me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif) elected over-sensitive hippies & pacifists who delay anything remotely resembling a war game on trivial grounds. Their probably checking that Aces matches NZ history, and that there are no swastikas etc. And that's for a game with no relation to NZ. God knows what'll happen if PF has the RNZAf in it. It'll probably be banned because it might imply NZ ever took part in a war or that there was a threat to NZ (which contradicts our PM).... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/smileys-gun2.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

--------

As for whoever said we get movies three months ahead of the rest of the world, you've gotta be kidding me mate. As an example, in April these US films are debuting here:

Along Came Polly - April 1st
Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed - April 1st
The Cat In The Hat - April 8th

Comparison to the US:

Along Came Polly - January 16th - (2 months, 17 days difference in US favour)
Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed - March 20th - (12 days difference in US favour)
The Cat In The Hat - November 8th 2003 - (6 months difference in US favour)

Hell, here's one. Last Samurai, made in NZ. 5th December debut in US, 15th January in NZ. Even LOTR:ROTK (which someone mentioned) debuted a day after the US got it 17 Dec vs 18th Dec. Certainly not 3 months ahead of anyone else (certainly not ahead of any first or second world country). As for DVDs, aside from one exception Lexx mentions in his sig (hey Lexx http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif hope you get it soon), everything else is delayed between 3 months to a year (new releases). http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

Yet through all this, we accept living in NZ. I feel sorry for Stalker58, as unlike with NZ, I can't see any justification for why he/she gets stiffed when they live on the same continent as UBI. I also gather that there are versions (US, European, Asian) of the s/w, and that has caused trouble too.

It is just plain pathetic, that's all. Even if we got the thing sent to NZ for claissying the same day the US got it (3rd/4th March), we'd still take longer to get it than the rest of the world release date. Go figure.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

EDIT: FWIW Gamesman has changed the date back to the 8th of April now. So if you live in a mjor city you might get it tomorrow, otherwise Saturday or Tuesday. Then again, it might be delayed, so follow this motto:

It'll be here when it gets here. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Look at it this way Owl, you've had six extra months of warning about Cat in the Hat.

Oh well that's a relief. Thanks for that RIPelliottsmith, maybe there is hope yet.

If it is out today (Wed) in Auckland, the overnight flights ought to get the thing to the other cities (Hamilton, P.N., Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, Invercargill etc overnight and it'll be on sale or couriered out by the afternoon. That'll give us something to do over Easter. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Chief censor had better watch out, I'll be after him with my Ki-84-Ic. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

mllaneza, yeah I noticed that and the Scooby-Doo thing were duds according to everyone. Mind you, most of the stuff nowdays is bloody awful. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

Yep, got mine couriered over from PN at 7.30 this morning.

For all those in the world who haven't got AEP and are still waiting, I can only offer my condolences. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif The wait is worth it, but the delays are unacceptable.

I read somewhere that UBI's Australasian distributer had changed and that had caused the recent delays with UBI stuff, but I am fairly sure Aussie got it 17th March (an Aussie confirmation here would help). Either way, it's been a pretty piss-poor showing, and a graphic example of chronic stupidity.

If our chief censor did rate it he didn't say much - all my stuff says "rated G8+ by the Australians with Low Level Animated Violence". Hardly justifies a three week delay, and does give a little credence to the "it's UBI Australia's fault" story.

With luck we won't have to go through this again with PF. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif
