Greetings to community!

Well, I just bought the game today (have no patch for now... guess 56k is a bit too slow).

I had no experience with il2/il2FB up to now, but I have great experience with other WW2 flightsims... and this one is just amazing!

At the begining I set flight dynamics to real (I only have external views enabled) and tried to down an ace P47 with D9... Couldn't do it (scored some hits) but he didn't tuch me either... Second flight I made was 2v2 I153P(me) vs 2 Ace Buffalos. I downed them both! Feeling was just fantastic! But I think that I153 is maybe a bit overmodelled... (in V1.0!).

So, I'm getting a much faster connection next week and I will start playing online. Which aircraft do you think is the most suitable for newbie like me? Are there any really overmodelled aircraft (because I don't wanna fly them)? How realistic is FB by your oppinion?

Thanks for tips.

welcome to IL2/FB

i think the La7 and the late Yaks are really overmodelled.
but you just have to ask enough people, and will find out that every plane is overmodelled.
i'd just take the plane that suits you most. the fw190 was my favourite since the beginning of my virtual flying carrer (quite a few years ago, with some Amiga simulations http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif). in il2 and early fb it was kinda crappy. now its better, and bang- im flying a newbie plane. i hope they're gonna make it bad again, i just cant shoot down anyone with a clear conscience atm http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Welcome to our world.... You asked about the realism of FB... Well IMHO it is not perfect but it is the most realistic of them all, has the very best flight models in any WW2 sim...that is in any version as well from 1.0 to the current 1.11. Take your time and as you explore the sim you will see how totally awesome it is in so many different repects....

The 109's are great planes except Oleg and Ubi ruin them so it's almost impossible to compete online with them.

tigertalon; Welcome!

Probably the best plane to begin flying offline is any of the IL-2 variants. They're slow and forgiving and you can learn how the flight model works in this sim.
Online try a La-7 or Yak 9. They are somewhat uber planes but it will give you a chance to last at least 30 seconds! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The best way (IMHO) to learn this sim is to pick your favorite plane and fly, fly fly. Set up a QMB (Quick Misson Builder) with friendly planes (they won't shoot back) and down them. Then set up a similar QMB with enemy planes. Use this to learn deflection shooting.

Practice, practice, practice. It's the best way to learn.

When you're ready to go online, go to Hyperlobby. You can download the client here:

http://hyperfighter.jinak.cz/

For lots of info on the game the best site is:

There's lots of help for graphics/sound settings here as well as tons-o-mods, Missions, Campagins, even racecourses. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

This is a fabulous community. any question you have will be answered. The Tech Forum has got some of the best minds in computers. Here there are many fine historians and folks that can help you with just about any problem you have.

As for realism....it's the best prop fighter sim yet made.
There are alot of whiners here but we all keep playing the game because there isn't one better. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."-the Wizard of OZ

Soon enough you will be hooked. (If your in school) your grades will drop, (if you have a job) your performance will fall, you won't get enough sleep, your wife/kids/girlfriend/significant other will wonder if you'll ever pay attention to them and your bank account will dry up as you buy better video cards, joysicks, memory, CPU's and soundcards. And if that wasn't enough you may start to make movies of your exploits and there goes the rest of your life. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Seriously, you're going to enjoy the heck out of this game. Whether you know it or not you've just made the best value for money investment of your life.

Enjoy

I think Bearcat99 said it best
"it is the most realistic of them all, has the very best flight models in any WW2 sim...that is in any version as well from 1.0 to the current 1.11. Take your time and as you explore the sim you will see how totally awesome it is in so many different repects....

I suggest taking time to set up your controls to utilize what this game has to offer...don't forget thos flaps. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
This game is the best flight sim I have ever played. It runs and looks way better than any Microsquish flight sim out there! I like the Bf109s even tho im not very good at them...And if your gonna play online...practice with the difficulties all on.

Be a man and try a HE-111 (Heinkel) two engine bomber, try keeping this sucker stable and be able to bomb something and get home in one piece, good luck.
