View Full Version : Songs & Radio Stations for Beyond Good & Evil 2

I'm guessing most people want Christophe Héral to return for songs made specifically for Beyond Good & Evil 2. Which generally are tied to cut-scenes and story driven sections. However as Ancel himself said, Beyond Good & Evil 2 is to some extent GTA in space, thus meaning hijacking and driving are an important part of the game. So with that said, one can assume that we will see radio-stations in the BGE2. So here is the thread where you can make your own radio station or at least list some artists you'd like to see in the soundtrack.

On a side-note I would honestly rather listen to music designed for a location. But if the world is vast, a radio (much like Final Fantasy XV) might be necessary.

Anyway for now here is my radio stations

Psychedelic Plague

Brief: The following station plays a niche genre of Black Metal, that being Psychedelic Black Metal (which the host will call 5th-Wave of Black Metal). Although the bands are diverse sound wise and there is a very small amount of them, the choice for the style of the music is to create a façade that this underground scene is reasonably new and thriving in System 3. Not only that, but the 5th-Wave of Black Metal is meant to represent the evolution of the genre/scene of Black Metal. Of course this façade could apply to a whole bunch of other genres. However I've picked Psychedelic Black Metal as I'm a fan of the genre and the genres related to it. Regardless, I don't think any other open-world game has put much of a back story when it comes to radio-stations and the music scenes. The idea of a game-world having it's own underground music scenes, an artist having something similar to Beliebers and a unique pop-music style is something not done.

Anyway here it is

Host: Fenriz of Darkthrone

Remember this is an ideal radio-station. Most in-game stations nowadays are a tool of promotion for artist's new music, if it isn't considered a classic. Therefor we would see the latest singles of these artists

Earth's Classics

I wouldn't know a suitable host or track-lists but this station will be playing the most recent/popular artists Ancel can get. Names such as One Direction, Eminem, Just Bieber, Niki Manj, Kanye West and the list goes on. The twist with this station is it is meant to be a station dedicated to old music or the "classics". If your in Australia, you might compare it to Gold 104.

Is this... a satire thread?

Just original ost please thank you. I don't mind Asian Dub Foundation in the trailer, but I wouldn't really want to see anything other than Christophe Heral's original tracks, maybe there are some fictional band's within the world however, although still ideally produced by Heral.

Haha, no it isn't. To clarify, as said in the original post, I agree that Heral should produce majority of the music. As I stated previously I'd rather listen to music associated with a location, rather than a compilation of songs on the radio. The issue is, within the game we are travelling long distances from city-to-city (a lot longer than the original), so if radio stations are used in the game, there is a strong chance that the dev team will be looking for third-party artists (if you can call it that). It might not become reality, but it certainly has a strong chance.

Edit: Actually I've had more thought on the topic. Didn't see the big picture, games like Skyrim have pulled off original scores when travelling long distances. Good pick up on it not being necessary. My bad!

I think that radio feature slightly akin to the one in ME2 would be perfect.

The trailer gave me a huge Shaka Ponk vibe (warning: some of their song are NSFW-ish).

When I first saw that cinematic triler ,the world reminded me of South Africa and Zew culture ,so I would love to see the radio station with Die Antwoord songs xd :D Also the way Knox was speaking reminded me of the south african slang xd

The problems with external music licenses are increment of game's budget and more important this:

Alan Wake is getting removed from digital stores due to expiring music licenses (https://www.theverge.com/2017/5/12/15631624/alan-wake-digital-stores-expiring-music-licenses-steam-sale)

So in any case it will be better use our own music to create radio stations, similar to GTA.

Hi, I totally agree with you !

Shani's charac design seems to be inspired by Samaha Sam from Shakaponk, as well as Knox from Goz. Also the music kind of reminds me of their second album, concerning the musical spirit and influences.

I can't wait to hear what will make the musical dimension of BGE 2 !!

Speaking of which, I wonder if there will be different music "genres", corresponding to different cultures, which are supposed to exist in the game (as we're theoretically invited to travel from one planet to another, and so on). Maybe little details like when you're walking on a street, you could pass by a street musician or even another artist (dancer, magician, etc). Or if you enter a bar you could see a band performing or something that would give a little more plus about the global immersion. Maybe could one of these examples be the context of a mission (even a secondary one), it would be great !

I'm surely thinkin' out loud a bit too much, but after seeing the last trailer, I totally fell in love with the musical esthetic, combined with the designs, etc. However, music could bring so much to this game, and with this trailer we're already dreaming, even if the game isn't finished yet. Keep on rockin' BGE 2's team !

When I first saw the trailer I literally thought the song was by Christophe Heral. The style of high ocane hyper-ethnic fusion style is definitely within his repertoire and style. There was a lot of asian influence in the original BGE soundtrack and "Race Courses" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkuSDQ5OKXc) is in many ways quite similar to Asian Dub Foundation's "Strong Culture".

I'm really impressed by their pick of the song because to me it really does exemplify the kind of musical fusion that fits the BGE universe. I for one would love to see the song pop up in game because of that fit. I'm sure Ubisoft knows how to deal with song rights given that they deal with this en masse for Rocksmith.
