I have never heard of that.../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif There is a tip online that uses cloth, and petrolium jelly. We tried that technique, and it seemed to work for us./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif you clean off the cd first with water and a soft cloth. then you take a tiny bit of petrolium jelly on the tip of your clean finger, and rub against the grain. then you take a soft cloth and lightly wipe it off. don't wipe too much though, or you will take all the pt off and will have to start over.

also, Alchohol seems to work (NSA's in luck now) with a cloth. I got a demo disk and while taking it out it got all the sticky stuff on it that keeps the demo packing closed in the magazine. I tried getting it off and so did my brother, he put a few scratches in it, so it might not have worked anyway. Then i took some rubbing alchohol and rubbed it down, it took the crap off AND it fixed the few scratches. I was so happy, because it was the Splinter Cell demo that came out the week before it did.

hmmmm for me the best thing has always been to exhale onto the CD, leaving condensation on it, then wiping it down with a cotton shirt or cloth...

Once my MotoCross Madness 2 disc wouldn't re-install onto my PC. I tried everything I knew. The disc wasn't scratched at all, I didn't know what the heck was the matter with the thing.

I called my local PC shop and asked them if they had a solution other than buying a new disc. They told me that it sounded like it had a "Static Charge"? and to run cold water over it for a couple minutes. Whether or not it actually had a charge of any kind, the cold water did the trick and I've been using it ever since.

I think he means for scratched CD's, not perfect condition ones.
