View Full Version : Attention: good news for all of us

Hi folks.

I'm currently way more busy then in the past... Work and the kid take all my time. Our parents can't help me and my wife with the kid, so we do all things completely ourselves. I sleep now even less then in the past. Now its not more than 4 hours per day. Other time when I'm not with the kid I spend only for the work... No hobby, no relax.

Anyway the news is about Pacific Fighters installation.

We will offer two types of installation...

We are going for the best possible solution and all who has already FB/AEP will be able to install PF into FB/AEP and then get Pacific Fighters which will include all the previous content of FB/AEP. In this case all the menus will be changed to Pacific Fighters Menus and at the same time old style of campaing in FB/AEP will be still playable as well as all other old features accecible. By this way we will get new looking sim with about 200 flyable aircraft (together with AI includes more than 200). Third party will be able to model online wars something like "all around the world".... and also replay with new US and UK planes and ground vehicles the missions (created by third party or by users themselves or I expect add-ons from Starshoy and others with campaigns for single play and coop campaigns for current European maps as well) and online competitions in coop games on european maps from AEP. This will change totally the content for European theater of gameplay. Great Plus isn't it?
But anyway the main _new_ content will be Pacific Theater with the all new planes, vehicles, ships, carriers, vehicles, guns, campaigns, missions, coop, dogfight etc...

Others, who haven't not FB/AEP will be able to install PF as completely separate stand alone product which will feature only Pacific theater with the only content for this purpose(not small need to say!). Probably these that still haven't FB/AEP will look for activity and speeches on forums about "full" version and especially gameplay online and then will try to buy FB/AEP gold pack that to be able to play as others.... Also good plus for all.

The only bad thing of such solution is that we need to support the first time both versions with

1. patches (if neccessary http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif),

2. add-ons, if there will be such. But i would tell there are waiting a lot of third party aircraft currently - Italian, US, Russian and German - from these third party developers who is experinced already in modeling for FB/AEP (or better to say from these who don't speak too much on forums, but really make it good!). Notice: I think add-ons with the planes we can submit only for united version (option PF inot FB/AEP install). We will see after the release.

3. dedicated servers.

1 and 3 is not hard for us.
2 is hard to track if to make for both types of install.

Anyway, trust me, we found the best solution that to satisfy all groups of interest.

Please tell this news to others.

Thank you sir, for the heads-up. Your idea of making 2 installs was discussed these days, and it is a relief to hear that you are able and willing to do this.
http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/11.gif

Word of advice though: even the toughest men can't keep going with only 4 hours of sleep (or less) a day for a long time. So please sir, be careful. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Wow, great news!!!

One question...
Will the people with the AEP/PF version be able to play with the PF only version people? If so will it only be in a mode that restricts us to PF aircraft only?

This is great news, it will help solve the debate on weather the community would be split.

Btw, don't burn out, get more sleep and gl with the kid.

Wow, really amazing news!!!

I was worried!!

So, say for example there is a flyable B-24 with PF (wishing away as I do http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif), then it will be able to be flown over Berlin???

And we will have the Illustrious which we could pretend is the Victorious, and use her to launch Swordfish attacks on the Bismark (read Tirpitz), and then Corsair and Barracuda attacks on the Tirpitz http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif Then all we'd need are a couple of British warships http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Ach, anyway, really really appreciate this great solution!!!!

Get some sleep my good man!!!

Reports are Pingu, that after BoB the Med will be done at the end of 2006 (?).

Rumoured, possibly, but Oleg has mentioned it I believe.

BUT....

....I would have SO much preferred PF to have been MF (Med Fighters http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif ), but it was not to be. So maybe one or two maps would be cool for the med, like Sicily, Malta, Crete, southern Italy, Greece, and a couple of Libyan and Tunisian and Egyptian maps, or something.

But perhaps that's asking too much, hehe.

(BTW, the guy who is doing the Murmansk map said last night he's finished it, and is starting work on 2 new maps, but he couldn't say which http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif )

This is the best, I repeat, the BEST, news I've read in a long time.

With "two installs" you really mean two installs, not two different version for sale? 'Cause that would cause some confusion I guess.

Also, will it be possible to make FB-planes launch from carriers? (I know, it's not historical, but could be interesting for what-if scnarios)

Are the versions the same? Are they compatible online? Also what will happen if someone for example takes a mission out of PF and adds an AEP plane into it, then hosts it with some stand alone PF folks?

1) Means from one CD possible to make both types of installs. Even both two instalss on one hard drive.

2) Possible to take off, not with all, but to land - only on slow planes, like I-153 for example, or Tb-3....(Yes I managed to land on TB-3 and do not damage the wing with the collision. Stopped before collision http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) To land impossible due to the following fact - we model the physics and arrester system (hooks with "wires", by other words "aerofinisher"), which means that the planes without the hook can't stop on the deck and will fall down in water from the nose of the carrier....

For landing I think most player will need some training. It is different to the landing on the ground and pilot can't make any mistakes in trajectory.

Anyway usually from the 5th attemps in trainings user can land on carrier.

I did all correct myself maybe from the 10th attemps during training and now I can land in any aircraft with arrester hook.

For the novices there will be new option in the mode No Cockpit View. There will be some floating point that show you where to fly (or better to say show how to keep right trajectory)

Exactly my concern here.
Are the versions the same? Are they compatible online? Also what will happen if someone for example takes a mission out of PF and adds an AEP plane into it, then hosts it with some stand alone PF folks?

If you both read me with attention then you should understand that we plan two types of dedicated servers. Which means that Stand alone PF will be not compatible online with PF+FB/AEP. It is impossible (possible if to spend 6 month of total work more for only this option. That will be complete rework of architecture for online code.).
However any missions created in only PF will be compatible with PF+FB/AEP.

The TB3 really is a lot of fun isn't it? I wonder if we'll be able to mount a Dolittle style raid with TB3s....

Re: the PF versions, that's good. From that last response I understand that most of THIS community will likely be playing the combined version. If they want PF scenarios, there's the capacity in the joint product to provide them.

The standalone PF without the combined option will probably be utilised mainly by new gamers who'll then wonder why there aren't many online servers, come on here and ask, and then go out and install the full product so they can join in with the rest of us.

Or something.

A pure PF wouldn't have had anything to offer for me but this way I see FB/AEP benefiting from the product (addition of bombers etc.), which will make already running onlinewars very much better.

I read it like this: You can take off with any plane on the carriers if it's not to heavy, but you can't land them all.

@Oleg: Did you try to land the Me-163 on it? I bet it's possible as the skid has enough friction. But it needs a very good glide approach http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. I like the idea of the "carrier-landing" contest...

How about a sub-contest: try landing a heavy bomber on the deck of the Lexington. Winner is the pilot that manages to keep the highest percentage of plane parts on the deck http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif .

Just imagine - TB-3s, B-17s, Pe-8s and of course B-29s trying to pull off the ultimate carrier landing! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Besides, this news also means we will see the mighty B-29 bomber coming to european scenarios & battle arenas. There are a few nice classy mountain maps in AEP that would sure be fun to experience with the Superfortress, even if some anti-heavy-bomber guys will cry a river about the fact that those maps are way too small to properly use the heavies.
SO WHAT?

Having fun is the main call. And with the upcoming combination of FB/AEP/PF, you can sure bet your soon-to-be-badly-bombed-a$$es that we will have FUN.

So PF is to be an upgrade to my already installed FB and AEP? That sounds too good to be true, but if it is true (please god let it be!) does this mean that my FB and AEP installation will have the new graphics engine installed over them, and all my models will be super quality, or does this mean that only if I buy the all-in-one version, then I'll get the new graphics engine for all the planes? Not looking to put a spanner in the works, just trying to find out if I'll need to buy the whole kit'n'caboodle for the better graphics engine.

WOW! Now I have to goto church.. I owe the big guy that for comming through for us.. Oh and god too! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Release should be around November this year, if I am not mistaken.

They have delayed various things to focus purely on getting PF out before X-Mas, so prolly mid to late November is when you'll see it!! Catch them X-mas shoppers early!!!

BTW, I really hope UBI can get their sh1t together with international software title releases. AEP was a fiasco and a half!!!!

FIRST

I think all of the above is good news for everyone. I'll go so far as to say it is excellent, because it comes for OLEG directly and it is certainly the best news we've read about future developments SO FAR. The update pictures are great, but explanations like the above are the real meat and potatoes we need to know about. It would be great to get some information as well as pictures with the weekly updates.

I'm an offline player so my interests are definitely biased towards having new things that enhance offline play.

QUESTION ONE

Does this mean FMB (mission Builder) improvements? If so, it would be nice to know more about what kind of improvements?

QUESTION TWO

Does this mean map creation and editing by third parties is going to be possible?

Great news Oleg. You deliver the best!

But please take care of yourself and your family.

We would rather have you healthy and happy among us rather than have PF, add-ons, etc. finished in time - whenever that is. Most of us have no problem waiting for a long time for new products. FB/AEP is already incredibly diverse and offers so many exciting experiences that I don't think anybody can have had the opportunity to try out most of it.

So, take care and don't forget that the demanding brats around the world deserve less attention than your family.

This is a brilliant solution to the stand-alone / add-on question.

1. We can fly PF stand-alone

2. We can fly PF in conjunction with FB/AEP.

People who only buy PF will, indeed, be tempted to buy FB/AEP = more $$ to 1C et al.

Oleg, I've been playing Il2 since I first discovered the demo online and I have always told everyone the truth about it. It (IL2, FB, and ACE) is the best flight simulation ever made. There are no substitutes. Thank you and the team for your dedication, fantastic output, and sleepless nights. I'm sure I speak for many when I say that your efforts are sincerely appreciated and the game(s) you've made provided many hours of enjoyment. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

One question re PF. Will it be possible to fix a static camera to a carrier even when its moving, this would be a great feature.

oleg, so far everything you have put together has raised the bar in graphics, playability, and plain fun, and it appears that no one else will be able to come close to what you have done. i realize that producing games of such high quality and such detail takes a great deal of time and effort on your part. i just want you to know how much we (and if i may speak for all of the gaming community) appreciate your effort.
having grown up during the cold war, (here we go telling my age again), i feel compelled to tell you how greatful i am that the political walls have finally been lifted and placed out of service, at least from my small insignificant viewpoint, without which we would not have been able to enjoy your efforts and appreciate the talent that that exists from your country. many thanks for your extreme efforts in producing such a beautiful and of course fun game.
now on the part of sleep, i was in a job that may have been as demanding and stressful as yours. i lived on about 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night and spent most of my time at work.
to make a point, both of my daughters are now grown up and married, and to be completely honest i have missed most of the growing up times. fortunately my wife was there for them and i did spend as much time as i could but truthfully it was never enough.
maybe the game will be a little later, maybe you may have to make another patch. maybe someone will be a couple of days late with a project...it's still going to be there. but your chidren will not...they grow up much to quickly. while i am not in your position i can only speak from my experience. judging from your posts you seem to be a great parent.
be there for your kids as much as you can, and for your health get a couple of hours more sleep. you will feel better. it took me 20 years to figure this out. and now it's a bit late.

enough of my ramblings. thanks again for the best sim i have ever played, and thanks again for all your hard work.

regards,

joe

Well, what do you know, Oleg does actually listen to us! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif I was one of the people who whined early and often when it was announced that Pacific Fighters would be a stand alone product. It was bad enough that keeping them seperate would split the community without the added problem of not having a game that is clearly distinguished from Cousin Billy's Combat Flight Sim 2.0 Yes, WE all know it would be better, but the average consumer looking at the games on the shelf at his local store would only see two versions of the same thing and probably go for the Microsoft version due to knowing Microsoft and not knowing UBI or trusting something made by a Russian. This way, the game will have the planes the new person "thinks" they'll be interested in and then they can expand their horizons to include all the planes we know and love that you just can't get from any other flight sim game.

I'll not only buy it, man, I'll pre-order it just to show my support for the developers! Very smart move on Oleg's and UBI's part!

Oleg, get some sleep! I'll wait for the game to be right instead of right now! My very best wishes to you and your family!

A word of WARNING....IL2 is a far superior flight sim compared to MS Combat Flight Simulator or any other I have tried. One of the reasons I like it much better than CFS is that CFS is an open architecture game.. Many third party add ons... Third party add ons are good when it comes to maps however Third party add ons destroyed CFS with add on aircraft. This is due to the many over modified aircraft that were and are created. CFS has become a Starwars sim instead of a WWII sim. IL2 has continuity because there isnt a bunch of 3rd party addon aircraft that are being unrealisticly modified.
Third party designers are good to work with but if you want a quality product there needs to be quality assurance and approval for the intended add-ons... Aircraft anyway.. Don't let Pacific Fighters become another Starwars, I mean Combat Flight Simulator.

Oleg;

Hopefully the corporate machine will let you rest after "Pacific Fighters."

I've seen what it's like to have a whole company and a lot of people's jobs riding on one man's shoulders. It can force you into making personal sacrifices no one should make.

Without health and rest and happiness at home, inspiration cannot be followed and talent cannot be applied. You'll burn out.

It's a sobering thought that the man who's recognized worldwide as the very best in his field, who has created a best-selling game that is first-rate as both a simulation and a work of art, isn't paid enough to hire a nanny.

When I was a young parent and we had no help with our child, I would work from home. I'm a newspaper reporter. I would make calls to people to interview and write all the questions down. Then I would go to sleep on the couch. When they called, I'd grab the paper with the questions and try to sound like I didn't just wake up.

Just letting you know that there are people who know what you're going through. Take care.

You better get on boaard man!!!

I have a question for you O..... about the FMB in PF.. and this may have been asked already.. in fact i think it has.. somewhere.. but will there be any changes to it.. like maybe triggers or a change to the default skin folder that will allow us to choose one from our skin library? I am thinking that could be done in a way that would automatically go to whatever default skin a person had on thier machine. Say if I had a Redtail P-51 as my default skin in a static aircraft... unless someone else had the same skin set as default they would see whatever default skin THEY had in thier default folder. Am I making any sense? Im tired and I think Im confusing myself... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

Im glad this thread is still alive and still positive... although I wouldnt go as far as calling you GOD... I will say you and your staff make the best dadburned flight sim on the market today. In fact.. I think it was IL2/FB2.0 that made MS say No Mas on the combat sims.... It is good to see that after 3 years (my involvement) you still take the time to come here and share with us.... it is one of the things that I respect the most about you... a man who stands by his product.... no matter what. And a d@mn fine product it is... I cant wait to try a landing on a choppy sea in the fog at night with a damaged plane.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

But... IF you don't have IL-2/FB/AEP installed on your computer, you'll only have a Pure Pacific Fighters install and won't be able to join the mixed bag IL-2/FB/AEP/PF servers. Having FB/AEP installed will allow you to choose either type of server. Once in a while you may want to chase 190's up and down the Solomon Slot, then go back and select a Pure PF server and enjoy In-Theater plane-sets.

A great comprimise for everyone.

My question is; I have FB/AEP, do I have to buy a FULL version of PF, or will there be a 'addon version' for us??

Yes you do...and the price is well worth it. For something like 12 new maps, 40 new flyables, and tons of new objects, ships, and campaigns. Thats well worth the price of admission.

A member of the group I with was asking this, Will it be possible to add PF as a stand alone even thou you have the latest version of LI2:FB/AEP? Some members I talk to have the consern of the Atlantic Theater aircraft that were not used in the pacific being avalible were they shouldn't be thus not having Historical context.

I like air racing. Is there any chance to be able to modify a plane for racing? Mods would be things like clipped wings and small canopies, more engine power. Would like to experiment with mods personaly.

1. patches (if neccessary http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif),

2. add-ons, if there will be such.
