Hello, everybody.

I bought IL FB somedays ago, don't know almost nothing about this great game, and I would be grateful is someome could answer me some quick questions.

1. There is a number near the pilots names that keeps changing all the time when they are flying. What's that?

2. It's difficult to me to fire precisely at the target when I'm flying some planes like, for instance, the Me, that does not have a "+" for you to point your fire. Any tricks to make your shoots more precise? Or should I paint a "+" or a "X" in the center of my monitor screen? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif

3. How do I check my frame rate?

4. How do I check my online rating-rank?

5. Why there are no cooperation/strategic missions (for instance two bombers being escorted by 12 fighters) in the arena? It's always dogfight games.

6. There are a bunch of unavailable planes in the arena. Why?

7. What about the maps? Are those maps created by fans or provided by the Ubisoft server?

8. Why people complain about vulching? If I'm not wrong it used to happen in WWII.

9. What is the FB ACE? Is it an official expansion, and is it worth buying?

10. Are there bots in the arena? And why there is so few people playing there (around 100) if we look at the number of people registered in this forum.

Thanks for attention, and sorry for so many questions.

1) I don't use icons but they are for range, not sure how measured but Km's and meters I assume

2) press shift+F1 to go into gunsight view and again to leave it.

3) press Cntrl+Tab, then type "fps START SHOW", it is case sensitive and no quotes of course. To close the command line press Cntrol+Tab again. To remove the FPS meter, reopen command line and type "fps HIDE".

4) "s" is the default key, this lists players, pings and score.

5) Dogfight mode does not allow AI planes, I suggest playing a COOP if you want to fly semi-realistic missions.

6) The host can restrict planes. Many hosts remove jets and also time period restrict the plane sets.

7) Most maps used in DF servers and in COOPs are made by players although that isn't necassarly the host. Edited, by maps I mean where stuff is located. The actual terrain and airfield locations are determined by the game developer only.

8) Some people like vulching, others don't. Obey the hosts rules and if you don't like them, find another server to play in. In my server I allow vulching BTW.

9) FB Ace is an official addon by 1C:Maddox and is published by Ubisoft. It adds a bunch of new planes (and of course bugs too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif ). I think it is worth getting but keep in mind it doesn't really add anything except more planes.

Edit for his edit http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/34.gif :
10) I bet you are playing at Ubi.com, if that is so then I suggest downloading Hyperlobby Client and using that instead. That is where most of us play FB/AEP (aces expansion pack). At peak hours there is normally 400+ players and even in the middle of the night there are still over 100.

I build COOPs and DF maps. If you would like some of them you can get them atmy COOP page (http://www14.brinkster.com/triggerhappy770/default.htm)

I/JG1 Oesau is recruiting axis pilots who prefer to fly maximum realism. We accept both veterans and rookies. We fly in VEF2, VOW and may join other online wars in the future. Go to our forums at http://www.jg1-oesau.org/ for more details and to apply.

I don't know the answers to all your questions,
but here's what I know:

1. If you have icons on, I assume that's the distance
to their plane. btw, distance is measured in meters
and kilometers.
2. the Messers have their sight offset to the
right. Press Shift-F1 to look through the "+"
5. Coop missions aren't very popular it seems.
But they do exist, unfortunately the best I can
say is keep looking.
6. The host probably locked these planes to stop
people from flying '46 planes in a arena set for
early years like '41 or '42.
7. Maps are made and provided by Ubi, people have
asked them to release the map-making tools but
always got a polite but stern "no"
8. Vulching was very common in WW2, that was
more or less the only way to shoot down a Me-262.
Online I guess it's along the lines of "don't
shoot the enemy down until he's somewhat ready"
Can't give any better answer, I'm a very offline
pilot myself.
9. FB ACE is official expansion and is
very, very, very worth buying.

Good luck http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

That is a distance icon. It is changing because you a either moving towards or away from the bogey. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Gunnery will be one of the last skills you will really hone in on. As far as the gunsight, you will likely fly many different AC with lots of different reticles. You'll get used to them and eventually pick a favorite.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>
3. How do I check my frame rate? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Anyone? I never check mine.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>
4. How do I check my online rating-rank? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

This is only a per session tool, but hold down the "S" key for your score, ping, plane type, markings, number. The number to the left of your name is not a rank.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>
5. Why there are no cooperation/strategic missions (for instance two bombers being escorted by 12 fighters) in the arena? It's always dogfight games. <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Check out hyperlobby, there are COOPs. VFC host is one you cannot go wrong with. No idea if they are doing bomber escort type coops though.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>6. There are a bunch of unavailable planes in the arena. Why?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Not sure what you mean. Either the host has not enabled the plane you are looking for, or you are looking at AI only planes.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>
7. What about the maps? Are those maps created by fans or provided by the Ubisoft server?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Fans/players like Zen and hosts create the maps/missions.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>
8. Why people complain about vulching? If I'm not wrong it used to happen in WWII.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

It's just a PITA I guess. I used to b1tch out the vulchers but learned quickly that is precisely what they are looking for. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>

ACES expansion pack to bring you to Version 2.0. Must have in my opinion, P38 says it all. It's a grape to shoot down, but fun to fly. Well worth the dough and most online servers will be using it.

Not at all. Welcome to the community, we are glad to have you. One thing however, you didn't ask about the patch. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Well done gents, I think you have him covered.

Warbird481, I'm in UBI quite a bit along with a number of squadmates (KSS Squad). They would be delighted to help you out, I suggest you try some COOP's as you will get more help from people flying with you than against you (in general).

A quuick PS on the framerate counter............

Download a little utility called Fraps from www.fraps.com (http://www.fraps.com). It includes screenshot and movie clip facilities and is a handy tool.
