As a new player, I have a hard time identifying the various optiona armaments on each of the plans in IL-2. Has anyone compiled a guide to these weapons so players (and scenario designers) won't be randomly choosing add-ons to their planes?

Look on CD-2 of the game, open it up and there are some PDFs. One of em (one of the manuals) has a basic list of munitions available and what they are.

It doesn't wover all the munitions, but they give you a good idea of what the other munitions would be.

i.e. it lists the SD 50 (a german bomb!) as a General Purpose bomb at 55kg (just say 50kg coz it's a nice round number). That means a german bomb marked as SD in the game is a General Purpose bomb, and the number, whether it's 50, 500, 2000, whatever, refers to it's weight in kilos, and so on.

whit ye looking at, ya big jessie?!?!

There was a very very good load-out guide available on mudmovers.com But, for some reason they closed the site and I don't know where or if this load-out guide is still present somewhere.

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

ye shall be judged: and with what
measure ye mete, it shall be measured
to you again.
