http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Because I've got NEWS FOR YOU! Two years ago, I created a map for the IL2 Bush Pilot's association! It's like the world's procrastination assocation, being that it's been on hold for awhile now, but never mind that.

Basically, here's the situation.

I've set up little landing points all over the Online 4 map with all them mountains. It is your job to land at these points without any damage to your plane, the Fi-156 Storch. There are other plane choices, like the U2VS, the I-153, and the B-239, but they're mainly so you can watch the bush pilot's progress without spending five minutes getting up to the proper altitude.

If you guys would like me to, I could post screenshots of what it looks like. Hopefully, if you guys like it, we could start an organization of sorts, with our own quirky website. I've already showed it to the group at IL2 Air Racing, and they love it, so come on! Try it out!

if you want me to send you the mission file, e-mail me at:

boosh at kbuch.com

I can usually get back to you within a couple of hours.

I too think that flying the Storch is a real blast, ye gods if only we had a cockpit for it. I have a dramatic (imho) ntrck of a Storch landing and takeoff on an island stream bank, complete with outfitter's hut, float plane, and surrounding forest, will post it if I can find a place to host it.

Great fun stuff, oh to have a cockpit, I'm almost looking forward to BoB more for a STOL aircraft than I am for the air combat (thats: almost). Thanks to Boosher for bringing this back up, I believe he's the one that turned me on to it originally.

yes! ive played on a bush pilot server a while back, was great fun, tho the u2vs just wont go that high... well it will but it takes forever..

ps, unbelievably, i once managed to land me163 on that mountain (after about 12 attempts)... tricky, but do-able! ill post the track if anyone wants to see it.

hope you can download this! http://users.aber.ac.uk/icb3/u2.ntrk

I'd love to give it a try. Wish we had a Storch to really pilot.

This might be worth firing Sturmovik back up for... the landing surface "off runway" was much more stable in Sturmovik, and there are lots of odd little corners in the Kuban mountains http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Actually Tully, it's quite landable. you just have to touch down at the right speed, I forget it at the moment, but it's absolutely hilarious. I'll be posting pics of the LZ's soon. You basically have to land on the LZ (landing zone) But it's a lot trickier than you might think! Some of the LZ's have less than 40 yards to land at! They're all set off by campfires, Control Towers, and observation balloons, but you may sometimes need to call in a plane with some MG's to take them out for you.

Once again, shots will be up soon! If Hosted, please put it up on HL as Bush piloting. I'll try to add LZ's where I can. Also, if anyone can find a place to host the map for me, it would be great.

No need to worry about rough terrain Tully, with the Storch at least. It's 'suspension' is modeled, and even animated, it lands quite realistically both graphically, and imho 'physically', anywhere you like. Though I'm no expert (the opposite really) I find the Storch's flight model to be quite reasonably good, it seems to fly very much like one would expect of a high powered (240hp!) civilian 'STOL' aircraft.

Sounds like boredom is setting in. May I suggest a small vacation. After all the weather is improving http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Actually, I've been doing this for 2 years, and it's great. The IL2 air racing guys love it. You should try it out!

So far, we don't have any servers up at all. No hosts. However I'm sure we could ask the TBS boys to host it at least once, maybe twice a week if we do it nicely instead of Air Race Practice.

I tried taking off with the Storch once, and i got it into the air, on those Mountain Multi-player maps, i saw the mountains and wanted to fly to the snow capped tops...so i turned and started my slow climb towards them...then i went and got food...
then i waited more...
then i didnt have enough altitude and crashed into the side...
