If I had my druthers, I would have rather have seen the IL-2 series develop as follows. This does not include functionality patches to fix major bugs which should be free. Minor bugs could be squashed at their whim or leisure:

***First major addon pack***
All the AI planes become flyable, game enhancements, maps, missions and campaigns. I'm sure everyone in the world would have gone for this feature from the start. Definately worth the bucks if retail. This would provide plenty of bomber action as well. Also, this would have kept people happy for quite some time while other developments were in the works.

***Second major addon pack***
Missing or more obscure planes from the Eastern Front, maps, missions, campaigns, plus any game enhancements.

***Gold Edition***
Includes everything to date to lure new players into the lare of IL-2.

***Third major addon pack***
Western Front including new Luftwaffe, British, USA and some Italian aircraft, ground units, ships, maps, missions, campaigns and game enhancements. This makes quite a bit of sense do to the fact that the German aircraft are mostly in place already. Battle Of Britain included.

***Platinum edition***
Everything to date.

***Fourth major addon pack***
North Africa and Mediteranian theaters including, aircraft variants, new aircraft, maps, missions, campaigns and new ground units. British plane variants developed from the Western front addon pack. Aircraft addons would be mostly Italian now. New game enhancements.

***Diamond Edition***
Everything to date

***Final Episode as addon and/or standalone***
Pacific theater complete.

***The future***
Time for new game engine. This one is now worn out and aging. But, it now runs like a mad racehorse on most PC's due to the technology in place. I would now venture back in time to WWI or maybe ahead to Korea and Vietnam.

***Distant Horizon***
Time to explore outer space a bit maybe...lolhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Mail this to Oleg. He might actually find it interesting. So much so, that he will offer you a job within 1C, making you the lead designer. Who knows, by the time of that "Diamond Edition", You ciuld be promoted to the chairman of the board of directors http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

"All Ai flyable" isn't as easy as it sounds.. With a lot of the planes there just isn't the data/references around to accurately reproduce the internals.

I don't think you quite appreciate how much work it would be to get so many planes flyable. Not to mention that there's not enough data for some of them, and the massive whine-fest that would undoubtedly ensue over each one of the several dozen new flyable planes.
Frankly, I don't think it's worth it for Oleg.

Of course, I'd be the first in line to buy it if it ever happened... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Come on guys, obviously this just wouldn't have or just isn't going to happen. But it is fun to dream a bit. Hence my title for this thread: "My pipe dream".

For those that don't know what a "pipe dream" is, I guess it would depend on your frame of reference. I always thought of a pipe dream as sort of a dream that will probably never come true. Or, a dream that could happen if I had the money, time, resources, drive or motivation to accomplish this somehow and by some means.

As to where the coined phrase "pipe dream" originated my theorie would be that it came from a time when it was likely that a man (or woman) could be sitting in their favorite easy chair taking long drags on their tobacco pipe with that blank starry look on their face thinking something like "if I only could......". Maybe they were blowing some nice big smoke rings in the process http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Of course the other possibility could be less innocent and the phrase makes reference to the dreams of someone visiting an opium den.

Bingo. The phrase is, in fact, a reference to opium-induced hallucinations.

I would like Human control of ground vehicles. If only a jeep. That way when conducting a new recuite a tour of the base he could ride along with me at a lesurely pace and look at the scenery AS I or one of the other commenders explain things to him.

But all the gound vehilce would be completely awsum. It would kick BF1942 but, expecialy if the ground troops were invlovles aswell. Might be a pipe dream but hey. Your the one handing out the smokehttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

From what I have seen posted about BoB, it will be bwyond what FB is capable of at the moment. Your "pipe-dream" may actually become a reality, but not with FB.

Oh, well in that case I'd like to fly a real Spitfire for the real RAF during the real WWII. Come to think of it, I'd just like to be able to fly whatever the hell I want, wherever the hell I want, whenever the hell I want, for real.
Only one difference though: I want the "Refly" button! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
