Many, many apologies if this is well trodden ground, but I rarely leave the Eastern/Western front until this beauty sim is closer to release. So, how about it?

Maybe there is a planned a/c list I could browse?

I kind of doubt it. The cannon armed Hellcat was not produced in particularly large numbers, most had the standard six 50 caliber machine guns.

No 20mm pls. We have already the tank-killing, destroyer-sinking cal.50's , that is enough http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

i hope so and the british corsair with 4 cannon. I dont see why it wouldnt be added, they seen more service then many other aircraft in the game.

Im still hoping for a a36 apache and rocket tubes for the mustang, as well as the p47 payloads corrected. The p47 could not carry a 1000lb bomb center fuselage only on the wing racks

2x1000lb
2x500lb
2x250
rocket tubes.

also many mustangs and p47s were fitted with the british X 6. ISA 80rockets. The ones the tempest carries.

I understand every prototype payload cant be made but ones used in service should be on all planes

I will dig up the production numbers later if someone doesn't beat me to it.

If we can have the rare Ki84c with suber-uber 30mms and a non-existent 109z, then cannon Hellcat is well within reason.

Seems to me those cannon armed Hellcats were involved with the FAA in a late war operation that actually had them flying over Europe...unfortunately for us flight sim enthusiasts, they never met any 109's or 190's...just imagine the raging debate on these forums if that had happened http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif

AFAIK know the cannon armed Hellcats were nightfighter variants. Some had their inboard guns replaced with 20mm Hispanos. I've seen some pictures of Hellcats with four 20mm cannons and no fifties.

Some authoritative sources say the cannons were not popular due them being unreliable. But that's apparently not all that true. Many new F6F-5N night-fighter models arrived without flash suppressors for their cannons. The flashes of the cannons seriously impaired the night-vision of pilots and the guns were removed. When they were reinstalled, there were some initial reliability issues but that appears to have been corrected and pilots thought highly of the cannons.

"A marine night fighter pilot" by Bruce Porter was a great book. He talked at length about scoring a couple of kills in a cannon equipped Hellcat.

I read somewhere that cannons were not liked by Marine pilots on F4U-1C's in many instances due to slow rate of fire... seemed odd to me, becasue Hispano's got a good rate of fire, but I have to remind myself that Brownings were more than enough for Japanese aircraft and there was no need for cannons in the PTO except for ground attack.

I'm really looking forward to the C version Corsair...that thing is gonna rock online!

Well, I was going to go stooging across Europe in search of some 190s.

Luftluver, don't you know that the Japanese had FW 190s as well? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/53.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/59.gif

At least, the Allies thought that for a while. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/sonar.gif

In May 1944 off Norway FAA Hellcats met LW fighters and claimed 2 109s and 1 190 for the loss of one Hellcat. FAA and USN Hellcats also claimed a handful of LW bombers, transports and Flying Boats in Norway and the south of France.

This from a Joe Brennan on tanknet,

The Hellcat encounter with German fighters, the only one, was 8 May '44 an weather aborted strike on Tirpitz per some accounts, general antishipping strike per others. 800 Sdn. Hellcats escorting Barracuda's reported they were attacked by Bf 109's and Fw 190's claiming 2 and 1 respectively for the loss of two Hellcats. The opponents were from JG 5; 3 Hellcats were credited to 10./JG 5 pilots and 2 Bf 109 G2's of 10./JG 5 and a Bf 109 G6 of 8./JG 5 were listed missing. JG 5 had some Fw 190's though so it's quite possible there were some present, I've never seen a German narrative account of it.

Apologies for lifting it from another site. Here's the url: http://63.99.108.76/ubb/Forum2/HTML/006511.html

So, probably no 190/Hellcat meeting.
