Hey everyone-

I wish the Production and Development Staff had time to respond with personal attention to every individual question posted here, but unfortunately, my main responsibilities lie outside the realm of the forums, and game production and development is the highest priority. Our communities are very important to us and we strive to keep you all informed of the most important changes and our project status. Please keep in mind that time spent here (by Production and Development) is time taken away from the projects themselves. I will see if I can make time to post answers to the specifics regarding the patch if possible.

With that detail aside, I must inform you all that the patch MAY be released a week later than the July 30th planned release. Nothing is set in stone- Oleg indicates that there are areas he would like to address which may push the release of the patch out by one additional week. We just want to let everyone know the current status of the patch schedule.

Thank you for your continued support- I am now ready for the flames.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Fishdogg;
Thank you for the update and the excellent and timely feed of information.

You obviously care about this community and I commend you for that. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

You should arrange for some of your communication skills to be grafted to your community manager.
His skills are weak and unacceptable.

Many of us have repeatedly attempted to reach him over various issues. Replies rarely happen at all and by the time they do come, they are rarely relevant.

Thank you again for the update and I await the release of the patch.
I completely understand if it needs to be released a week later.

Sincerely
Tall_Canuck

Like I said in the other thread... I owe you no flames as I would rather have a workable patch than one that introduces bugs into the mix. One more week is nothing IMHO.

Thanks for keeping us up to date sir.

And UBI were nice enough to inform us.

This I suspect is because of issues highlighted by the un-official testing of the beta by the community.

Shouldn't it be made public then even at this late stage and get some feedback without people feeling like they're doing something wrong ?

Look guys, from what I`ve seen people are really pleased with the v, 8 beta patch, right? So wait! The complete works will be even better. The original patch news did say that the 30th was NOT an absolute date, but that`s what they were aiming for.

I also have a suspicion that these betas were released so the programmer could get a quick heads-up on our opinion and adjust in the final couple `o weeks to our taste. It`s no doubt to benefit us.

p.s. For the programmers...
While they`ve got this extra time maybe they could make captures a little more realistic (not instantly caught in enemy territory- a chance to escape, oh and don`t adjust AAA lethality on airfields, it`s fine). /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I'm sorry. What I wanted to say was it's hard to be told a date and then that it's later. But sure I'll gladly wait til it's complete, and I appreciate that Fishdogg cared to inform us that MAYBE it will be delayed further.

Still playing without the patch tho, and guess what, I'm having fun /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

shame on you, whiners!

at least we are being informed on what is happening, and at least we are getting a patch, a week later and it has been a long time but there is no excuse for having a mental at mr dog

i would rather have a proper decent patch that shuts you all up, rather than an unfinished one that incites more damn whiners (i see the irony of whining about whiners)

if it takes an extra week to properly sort out everything that is needed - then thats what it takes

you'd think from some of the responses people think oleg and crew are sat around smoking, drinking and playing the finished version of the patch saying "shall we give it 'em" --- "naaah lets make the gullible fools wait another week - i can't be arsed to release it yet, pass the ashtray "

Considering the game is great to begin with, and that the patch will come with free toys as well as fixes, the whiners really should shut the hell up.

I'll tell 'em what I tell my sweetie's five year old when she throws a tantrum:

"Relax baby."

Remember- the original IL2 had a demo with a mission builder in it(!), and the patches came with new planes to play with. This sim has a history of great customer support.

CPS_Talon makes an extremely good point. If there had been open discussion in here about the leaked betas, and about such things as Ian Boys' project to collect and forward bug reports from those of us who had them, there might have been a lot less impatience and frustration and general rancor among the Ubi Zoobi regulars.

Think about it. If people were aware that Maddox was getting all this new feedback and the team was hard at work on the new problems that had turned up, they might have been more understanding about the need for extra time. Especially if they knew just how MUCH of it there is. Go over to SimHQ and look at that thread; look at the long, LONG lists of items forwarded to Maddox.

(A lot of guys in Maddox's place would have looked at all those new bug reports coming in and said, "Oh, the hell with this," and taken off for Brazil with the secretary. Or just shot themselves. I'm not crazy about the guy's personality, but I have to admire his work ethic.)

So it would have been very much in Ubi's interests to allow and even encourage such discussion in here. In fact it would have been to their advantage to have Ian Boys post his request in here, and in Tech Support and even in Mr. Oleg's Play House - er, Ready Room. Not that they'd have gotten all that much new feedback, but just to demonstrate that the problems were being taken seriously, that the team was working to correct them - that there were REASONS for the delays, they weren't just screwing around.

Instead they clamped down like the NKVD on every thread that had anything to do with the leaked betas, not just locking but deleting them. Why? I can see why they'd delete information on where to GET leaked patches, but why stifle even the mention of their existence?

A couple of guys even posted little reports, like, "I've tried this leaked beta and hey, they're really doing a good job, you're going to be glad you waited." Now wouldn't you think it would make good sense to leave something like that up and even bump it? These were TESTIMONIALS, for God's sake, you couldn't ask for anything more supportive!

But no. In here the subject of leaked patches has been like oral sex at Bob Jones University: mustn't even TALK about it.

If I had a ******ed ten-year-old that didn't know any more about customer relations than Ubi Soft, I would put him up for adoption.

I must agree with Blind_Joe_Death`s post.
If Ian Boys was actively seeking about it, WE should have had his request posted here too.

The moral of the story:

Download WAREZ and become a respected member of the beta testing team while the rest of us abidingly await the official release while Catrix remains incommunicado.

Fricken A.

Sorry, getting feedback on the beta only makes sense now that the cat is out of the bag (I'd do the same), and correcting the bugs asap is good too, but a message is being sent through this precident.

FYI, I think I'd make a great beta tester but I refuse to do it by downloading warez and then posting on a public forum. Next time invite me.

FURTHERMORE, as I'd suggested in many posts before, there really is HUMOUR in UBI "Testing" the patch.

If there's truly a pile of bugs flowing in from the WAREZ community, I'm wondering who was doing what as far as this "testing" goes during the time that the beta was being distributed.

All the more reason to let the community test the beta patches in the first place.

Hey Dex. I was curious about this aspect of your posts. How is a Beta WAREZ? I thought WAREZ was from D/L retail products for free. Since the Beta is not a retail version or a finished product how is it WAREZ? I'm just saying. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Sometimes the hardest decisions are the right ones to make, if the patch is not up to quality standards, it shouldn‚¬īt be released, or as Plato said "the part can never be well unless the whole is well."

============================
When it comes to testing new aircraft or determining maximum performance, pilots like to talk about "pushing the envelope." They're talking about a two dimensional model: the bottom is zero altitude, the ground; the left is zero speed; the top is max altitude; and the right, maximum velocity, of course. So, the pilots are pushing that upper-right-hand corner of the envelope. What everybody tries not to dwell on is that that's where the postage gets canceled, too.

You know what I mean.

Besides, recently there were a lot of warnings and bannings on other flight sim boards since people were posting screenshots from a 'beta' version of FS2004. That may not be retail either but you catch my drift.

It's not whether or not it's 'WAREZ' so much as the fact that UBI is now extending their development time on a patch thanks to a) their beta testers leaking the patch and b) the remarks of unauthorized beta testers posting on a non UBI forum.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this isn't the most honorable business process for software development, is it? I'd think not.

Hey Dex. Ok so if I understand you correctly, you suspect that the patch was leaked on purpose to get a good public run through? If they did do that then I really don't understand why they didn't just have the open beta test that Ian and few others called for a couple of weeks ago? Hmm, something "is" fishy about it I guess. a) Onnly one who knows who leaked it is who leaked it. Don't cast blame if you don't know.

b) As Ianboys pointed out in that thread the reason he didn't post it here is because it would have been locked by the short sightedness of the mods here. I for one am glad he didn't.

Talon, I hear you on the patch being helped by this whole thing. What I'm trying to say is that UBI looks a little foolish (to me) dealing with things this way.

Bugs being turned up as a result of a beta being leaked shows that someone wasn't doing the testing they were supposed to, or UBI doesn't have enough testers.

Releasing the patch 2 months ago and getting everyone's feedback may have furthered FB even more than this tight-lipped slow-leaking no-communication-from-UBI approach.

The community (as can be seen from Ian Boys request for feedback) is a great group to help improve the sim. Instead UBI has IMO crapped on us with their lack of interest for the past number of months.

Now we're finally getting the long-awaited info from Fishdogg (thankfully) but the whole situation surround the patch testing/development is flawed and so I understand more clearly than ever why UBI's other releases this year have been [politely put] "less than stellar".

I can go on and on about this but unfortunately my opinions would be best expressed to stakeholders in UBI about what their teams are doing, not us, the buyers of their products.

The mods are not short sighted, There is a long standing order from the original IL2 that ANY leaked beta information is to be locked/deleted. Much like no cd cracks etc. It's a policy not short sightedness nor their decision.

Please don't speak for Ian he's a big boy he can speak for himself on these issues.

As for the honor portion.........the person(s) who made it available have an NDA yes, if part of Oleg's picked crew I would suspect a loss of trust at the very least.

Granted, I guess that was a cheap shot. They have to take orders too.

I wasn't speaking for Ian, he said so himself in that thread from SimHQ I linked to earlier. I was more paraphrasing than speaking for.

The big part of that is IF it was one who had signed an NDA, then I suppose so. Maybe for the next patch/addon or whatever you want to call it, they should rethink that policy in the NDA. More good is coming from this than if it had been kept under lock and key.

Much thanks for the update!

Nobody wants to wait. I know I don't but we are very close to getting it and waiting a little longer in not going to kill anybody. It's taking longer for a reason and that is to fix additional bugs!!! Ian Boys has been doing a lot of work forwarding tons of issues that beta testers (legit and non-legit) have identified. More bugs = more work = longer wait = better patch. It will be worth the wait so just chill out and hang in there.

P.S. If the whining level could brought down to a more reasonable level that would be nice.

Having worked with Marc for several years I know that his coming on here to keep all of you informed was something he felt he needed to do. As he states, it is not his responsibility as he is an Associate Producer and works in Product Development.

The way some of you act is very poor and I wouldn't blame Marc if he just avoided coming here again.

Some of you guys don't deserve someone like Marc working on you behalf.

Marc, don't let idiots ruin your usual good nature and positive attitude. I appreciate your efforts.

CPS_Talon, beside the reason Hunter talks about, the policy to lock/del all posts about the leaked beta, we also like to uphold the respect for the development process.
If the developers have chosen to have a closed beta then I respect that.

But I agree that it sure looks like the situation at hand actually helped in this case.
Which hopefully will convince 1:C and UBI to have open betas in the future.
This community is very mature and have alot of knowledge.

Stormin, I agree with you that it's pathetic when some whine about the patch being somewhat postponed BUT I can only track 2 posts being negative (in this thread) and both later on posts their apologies.
Seems 99% appreciate the extra time put in.

And from what I understand it's Oleg who decided to keep the patch and not UBI.
One might blame UBI soft for many things but not this delay.

Indeed, I don't think any of us can be surprised that a constructive thread on issues appeared on the SimHQ board and not this one.

Locking issues aside, there's a lot more toys thrown out of prams over here than there ever are on that forum.

If anything the public-release-by-stealth has shown us just how MUCH is in this new patch, way more than I was ever expecting anyways, and an extra week is neither here nor there.

Well done devs, it's looking great.

Cheers,

Off course no one is happy about a delay but if it takes a week more to finish the patch it takes a week more. As simple as that. Stop the whining!

Thx for the info Fishdog! We oldtimers appreciate it a lot. What anoyed most of us (IMHO) was not the delay regarding the patch as much as the non-communication policy. Whether it was a policy or lack of interest or simply a mistake is another question. Thx for the info anyway!!!

Worst news I heard in awhile why even have an ubi staff come and post july 30th for? Still no reason for the date being pushed back I guess ubi found some major flaws while testing the final.

I would only be mad if the patch was not delayed. The amount of bugs reported at simhq was enormous and will require weeks to fix. Beta 08 had a lot of problems; I would keep playing 1.0 if beta 08 were the final patch. Let them take as much time as they need to get it right, and quit whining. Whiners are the reason betas aren't officially open in the first place.
