a day or 2 ago people posted some BS with playstation 3 pictures inside(idn't fall for that one it was another one)
and some other thing which i do'nt recall at the MO

But the problem is,clicking on these links will install a NASTY spy ware thingy which shows up everytime you boot and which will slow your computer down.

THATS what i'm talking about http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-mad.gif(still P!ssed at the culprits)
so now i wanna have the word "outwar" banned from these forums so that they can't be put in a link no more to succer people into clicking the links

04-26-2004, 10:50 AM
Yea. Outwar`s the `tarpit trap` link that`s sometimes invades the forums with a carrot like, "Look here! Awesum!" or "You can`t miss this!" or "See sexy ladies-" etc, you get the idea. If you click on it it spams your PC with all kinds of crap and ruins your system.

Unfortunately I don`t know if banning Outwar would help at all, since they could probably just take another word instead?

Best thing to do is just be very cautious of anything that says, "lokk here" but doesn`t explain why (and read the blue link too).

Can anyone explain EXACTLY how this Outwar crap works?

I know, the bastard who posted the link should be strung by his balls. I don't think they can ban a word though.

04-26-2004, 10:55 AM
no but they can do it such as if you type it it comes out in another form

they used to have on the IL2 forums call it a transformer which transformed the word killjoy(their local pest back then http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif the Ray ban jockey of today http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )
and if you wanted to post it it came out
"He Who Shall Not Be Named"

So maybe they can do that?
I know Luthiers forums can

I use the spyware detection program Ad-Aware 6.0. There's a FREE version from http://www.lavasoft.de

If you keep it updated, it removes most known spyware. Also, from the START menu, select RUN and type in MSCONFIG and hit ENTER.

Click on the Start-up TAB to uncheck any programs that you don't want starting up at boot. If you keep an eye on this list, you can immediately tell when something has been added to your start-up routine or registry that you didn't authorize, by making a note of what's checked on the list normally.

Spyware causes lag, as well as being an invasion of your privacy. Remove it all ASAP and your PC will be happy you did. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I know your pain...I was infected by something similiar on another game forums a few years back...dont remeber which game or forum. As far as banining his IP, what if he has a dynamic IP? I was going to click on it, but I thought a PS3 topic here in the PC world of flight sim forums was a bit off. Good Luck on removing that cr@p, hope it works in the end. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I got a little question on Malicious spyware/adware. If someone puts it on your PC without permission that would be considered vandalism wouldn't it? And if you sent them a virus and totally destroyed their HD's that would be defense of your property wouldn't it? Just wondering http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif.

By posting links here they're violating the Outwar rules, I'm all for banning it.

BTW, Outwar is a game where the winner is the person who gets the most people to join his "team". To recruit someone to your team, you send them an email or other communication with a link for your team and get them to click on the link. It's a different way of getting tracking cookies on a lot of systems.

The Outwar terms of use prohibit spamming or off topic posting as a means of recruiting, but I don't know how strictly they enforce it.
